Novell Extends Exam Deadline for CNE Continuing Certification Requirement

More than 55,000 'NDS-Literate' CNEs Have Completed Continuing
Certification; Novell To Execute Awareness Campaign, Extend Time Frame for
CNEs Registering for Exams Before June 30 Deadline

OREM, UTAH -- MAY 20, 1996 -- To accommodate the testing needs of worldwide
CNEs-in-progress and CNEs seeking to simultaneously complete Novell
Education's Continuing Certification Requirement (CCR), Novell today
announced an extension of the CCR testing deadline. The CCR requires that
CNEs successfully complete one of two exams corresponding to
Novell-authorized courses 526 (NetWare 3 to NetWare 4 Update) and 520
(NetWare 4 Administration). Originally, CNEs were required to complete the
CCR by June 30, 1996. The extension allows CNEs to register for one of the
two qualifying CCR exams by June 30, 1996, and then successfully pass the
exam by Aug. 31, 1996.

The CCR was designed to keep CNEs current on NetWare 4 and develop what
Novell Education skills assessment director Gary Clark refers to as an
"army of Novell Directory Services-literate CNEs" to meet the service and
support needs of Novell customers around the world. Since the announcement
of the CCR one year ago, 55,000 CNEs have demonstrated NetWare 4 and NDS
proficiency by passing the CCR.

Owning 63 percent of the network operating system (NOS) market, NetWare 4
is the industry's leading NOS. NDS is the de facto standard global
directory for finding and managing networks.

"Novell is committed to ensuring that all CNEs have been contacted and
given the opportunity to register for the exam," noted Clark. "By
telephone, we are attempting to contact each CNE who has not completed the
current CCR to remind them of the upcoming deadlines, and that, to stay
current with their CNE certification, they need to register for the CCR
exam before the end of June, and pass the exam before the end of August."

Around the globe, one alternative to CNEs who have not completed the CCR
will be the NetWare 4 Training Extreme program, a concentrated course
designed to help the "NetWare 3 Elite" receive time-efficient,
cost-effective training on NetWare 4. NetWare 4 Training Extreme courses
are being implemented during May at Novell Authorized Education Centers
(NAECs) across North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia and
Asia.

Extreme, contact Novell Education at 1-800-233-EDUC inside North America,

register for either of the two CCR exams, contact Sylvan Prometric at
1-800-RED-EXAM inside North America, or call 1-612-820-5706 outside North
America. To register for the test corresponding to Novell Authorized
course #526 (NetWare 3 to NetWare 4 Update), request test #50-162, for
course #520 (NetWare 4 Administration), request test #50-152.
