Novell Announces LAN WorkPlace Pro for Windows 95/NT

Allows Users to Easily Access, Share and Retrieve Information on TCP/IP,
NetWare, Intranets and the Internet

INTERNET WORLD, SAN JOSE, CALIF. -- APRIL 30, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today
announced LAN WorkPlaceR Pro for Windows 95/NT, a new version of its
leading integrated Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP) applications suite that enables users to transparently access,
share and retrieve data and applications across an intranet or the
Internet.

This integrated connectivity suite significantly extends the
TCP/IP-application functionality available in the Windows operating
system. The new version expands Novell's LAN WorkPlace product line, which
already includes products for DOS and Windows 3.x, and has an installed
base of more than 3.5 million.

"LAN WorkPlace Pro is integrated very nicely with Windows 95," said Randy
Schultz, network administrator of Plastomer, a manufacturing firm
headquartered in Livonia, Michigan, who tested the product. "One of the
nicest things is the install. You load it up and it's ready to go with
very little configuration. The functionality is just fantastic. The
product has everything in there you would want to do. We particularly use
the TelNet, Serving FTP and Rapid FTP. Indeed, that capability has been
the key to this company moving to Windows 95. We tested this product on
both a server and on individual desktops. It works great either way," he
added.

Major Features and Benefits

All key LAN WorkPlace Pro applications run in 32-bit protected mode, which
means the product can take advantage of the increased stability and power
of the Windows 95 and NT environments. LAN WorkPlace Pro, which utilizes
the TCP/IP stack and dialer included in those operating systems, includes
several other features ranging from improved Internet access to simplified
installation and administration.

Internet Access -- Users can gain immediate access to World Wide Web sites,
mail servers and news groups. LAN WorkPlace Pro includes version 2.01 of
the Netscape Navigator Internet client, the latest version of the
industry-leading Web browser that supports new Internet technologies
including Java, JavaScript and Inline Plug-Ins. Additionally, an enhanced
mailer includes automatic viewing and support for MIME (Multipurpose
Internet Mail Extensions) attachments, providing improved document
transmission and compatibility.

Terminal Emulation -- The terminal emulators (Telnet Presenter, TN3270,
TN5250 and a VT420 emulator) give users enterprise connectivity to IBM,
DEC and UNIXR-based workstations, servers and mainframes.

X-Server -- Users can gain access to remote X Windows applications and
files on UNIX systems. The X-Server enables users to run X™
applications concurrently with their Windows programs on the same PC. The
X-Server now supports the latest X11R6 standards and is X/OpenR certified,
assuring compatibility with future as well as present X applications.

File and Print Services -- LAN WorkPlace Pro includes a Network File System
(NFS) client, a Rapid FTP (File Transport Protocol) and other client and
server applications that enable users to share network file servers and
printers.

Improved Installation and Simplified Administration -- LAN WorkPlace Pro
integrates and extends the features available in Novell's LAN WorkPlace 5
and LAN WorkGroup 5 products, thereby providing centralized installation,
workstation configuration and maintenance. A Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol (DHCP) server centrally assigns IP addresses. Additionally, an
improved installation program allows the user to install the product
quickly and easily on the desktop or server.

Network Utilities -- Network tools such as finger, finger daemon, ping and
remote shell extend the power of 32-bit network computing to standard
network utilities.

"LAN WorkPlace Pro is the right information-access solution for NetWare
customers using the WindowsR 95 and Windows NTR desktop environments,"
said Vic Langford, senior vice president and general manager of Novell's
Internet/Intranet Services Business Unit. "This integrated connectivity
suite helps users to easily integrate intranets and the Internet into
their existing NetWare networks," he added.

Pricing and Availability

LAN WorkPlace Pro will be available in July through Authorized Novell
Channel Partners for the suggested retail price of US$249. Multi-user
licenses will also be available for 10, 50, 100 and 250 users with prices
as low as $40 per user. LAN WorkPlace is also available for DOS and
Windows 3.x environments.
