NEURON DATA AND IONA TEAM TO DELIVER TRUE PLATFORM AND OBJECT
INTEROPERABILITY FOR BUILDING DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS

ELEMENTS 2.0 EARLY DEVELOPER RELEASE -- INDUSTRY'S FIRST
ENTERPRISE/INTERNET DEVELOPMENT TOOL THAT INTEGRATES C++, CORBA, OLE, WWW
AND JAVA OBJECTS IS NOW AVAILABLE

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF., MAY 13, 1996 - Neuron Data and IONA Technologies are
pleased to announce out-of-the-box compatibility between Orbix -- IONA's
market leading Object Request Broker -- and Elements 2.0 -- the
component-based development tool from Neuron Data. Combining Orbix and
Elements 2.0 makes it easy to extend the reach of applications based on
different object standards from client/server Intranets to the global
realm of the World Wide Web (WWW).

Elements Environment 2.0 is the industry's first environment for
interoperable objects and Intranet/Internet application development.
Elements 2.0 is a component-based, object-oriented product that
automatically allows different objects (C++, Web, OLE, Java, etc.) to work
together in the development of flexible applications. Orbix is the market
leading implementation of the Object Management Group's (OMG's) Common
Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA). The product runs and
interoperates across 20 operating systems from Windows to UNIX. With
Orbix, programmers can develop distributed, object-oriented applications
following a consistent and straightforward, standards-based model.

Neuron Data's Elements 2.0 provides an open architecture that enables the
assembly of heterogeneous objects into instantly portable and scaleable
distributed applications. Through Orbix, Elements can now integrate CORBA
objects with C++, OLE, Web and Java objects permitting application
interoperability across more than 20 hardware, operating system and
network platforms. According to Annrai O'Toole, chief technical officer at
IONA Technologies, "Orbix 2.02 for 32-bit Windows provides a very easy to
use integration between OLE and CORBA. Neuron Data's Elements 2.0 can tap
the power of Orbix to take developers out of the confines of desktop
applications and into the world of distributed objects. Elements 2.0
easily accomplishes this from within a visual environment by
point-and-click operations." O'Toole continues, "Elements allows corporate
users to work with the Internet as well as popular desktop applications,
such as Microsoft Word, that are integrated with their business-critical
applications. We are excited that Orbix users now have another valuable
tool like Neuron Data's Elements for developing corporate applications."

DEVELOPMENT FURTHER SIMPLIFIED

Neuron Data's Elements already simplifies programming tasks by providing a
portable graphical user interface (GUI) and the integration of rules,
which also port automatically from platform to platform. Its new Object
Servers allow Neuron Data objects to be accessed from within C, C++,
Visual Basic and Java applications, while Elements' own event-based
OOScript language integrates third party object servers, making them
accessible by Elements applications.

Neuron Data's Web Element enables corporations to embed custom browsers so
that users can access the WWW from within business-critical applications.
Patrick Perez, Neuron Data's chairman and CEO, sees advantages on several
levels. "Developers already have enough to worry about trying to make
various corporate systems work together," Perez believes. "By providing
support for Orbix in Elements 2.0, we are giving developers a completely
open, standards-based architecture that allows them to assemble new and
existing objects from multiple resources, including the Internet, and
distribute them throughout the enterprise. With Elements 2.0, development
is straightforward, it's faster, there's less room for error, and the
resulting application is much more flexible and accommodating of changes
or modifications than if using any other development technology."

ELEMENTS 2.0 EARLY DEVELOPER RELEASE

To give developers hands-on experience with the fully Orbix supported
version of Elements 2.0, Neuron Data is making an Early Developer Release
(EDR) available immediately. The final version of Elements 2.0 will be
generally available in June of 1996 and will be offered as a free upgrade
to sites purchasing the EDR at prices starting at $9,600.

ABOUT NEURON DATA ELEMENTS

Elements 2.0 is the industry's first development environment for internet
and enterprise computing based on interoperable objects. Designed for the
professional developer, it contains all the capabilities necessary to
develop completely portable, dynamic and distributed enterprise
applications that leverage the Internet. Elements 2.0 enables programmers
to seamlessly assemble Elements objects, C++ objects, OLE, CORBA and Web
Objects in an open environment using popular languages such as Visual
Basic, C and C++. Elements 2.0's GUI objects, business rules, data access,
Web access and message routing middleware are completely open,
automatically portable and work across multiple platforms, operating
systems, database servers, network protocols and windowing environments.
