NCD Ships Industry's First Complete Remotely Hosted Windows Application
System

NEW SERVER SOFTWARE COMBINES WITH NETWORK COMPUTERS TO DELIVER
HIGH-PRODUCTIVITY; MANAGEABLE COMPUTING ARCHITECTURE

Mountain View, Calif., April 23, 1996 -- Network Computing Devices
(NASDAQ:NCDI), a leader in the design and manufacture of enterprise
network computing solutions, today unveiled WinCenter Pro 2.0, a major new
release of the company's Windows application server software. Designed as
an extension to Windows NT server, WinCenter Pro enables users to run
standard Windows applications, such as Microsoft Office, as remotely
hosted applications. WinCenter Pro and NCD's Network Computer family are
the foundation of NCD's Network Computing Architecture (NCA), a computing
approach that provides end-users with simultaneous access to Windows, Web,
Intranet, Unix and legacy applications.

WinCenter Pro 2.0 provides the industry's first Intranet-based network
audio system, while enabling end-users to work in an intuitive, Windows
application environment. New features include "point-and-click" access to
WinCenter hosts and application services, desktop A: floppy capability,
and easy-to-use local cut/paste between applications regardless of their
operating system or server.

WinCenter Pro 2.0 is targeted at two markets. The first is the installed
base of Unix and X Window users who need access to Windows applications on
their Unix Workstations and/or X terminals. NCD has added support for the
workstation floppy drive, Network Audio System support (supported by Sun
and HP workstations), and several other features to support this market.
The second market is the Intranet market where users need access to
standard Windows applications from desktop Network Computers, such as the
NCD Explora.

"While there are a number of companies talking about low-cost network
appliances, NCD is delivering a complete, standards-based solution today",
said Doug Klein, president, NCD Systems Corp. "With WinCenter Pro and
NCD's Explora Network Computer, end-users enjoy access to the widest
possible range of applications and network services, including Windows and
Web-based software. Power users can leverage the 32-bit processing
capabilities of Windows NT and true multi-tasking. At the same time,
remotely hosted computing offers a significantly more cost-effective and
manageable environment when compared with traditional PC-based computing.
With NCA, IS managers and network administrators can manage applications,
data and processing power centrally, while still providing
industry-leading applications and network services on each user's
desktop."

The NCD approach offers a lower initial cost of installation and a
significantly lower cost-ownership than a traditional PC-based solution. A
recent report by the leading market research firm Zona Research (Redwood
City, CA), showed that the NCA approach would cost less than half of the
equivalent PC implementation over a five-year period.

The newest release of the WinCenter Pro Windows application server software
allows users to launch Windows applications and take advantage of true
multi-tasking by simply pointing and clicking on the appropriate WinCenter
network server. The Network Computer floppy also makes it easy for users
to install standard Windows 3.1 and Windows95 software packages. Users can
cut and paste information across any application environment, from Unix to
Windows or a host-based application to Windows, by simply highlighting the
appropriate information.

"This release of WinCenter Pro underscores the importance of providing
end-users with the widest possible range of network information services,"
continued Mr. Klein. "While there are a number of new network computing
initiatives that are designed to replace today's existing applications, we
believe that corporate users will demand Windows applications, as well as
Unix, legacy and Web applications, for the foreseeable future. That is
what makes the NCA approach so powerful. With logical distribution of
processing between the server and a thin-client, corporations can enjoy
the applications end-users are familiar with today, as well as a smooth
migration path to future technologies, such as Java and Web-enabled
Windows applications."

NCD's innovative Network Audio System (NAS) is an integral component of the
Network Computing Architecture. Based on a client/server architecture, NAS
enables corporations to take advantage of audio-enabled applications, such
as computer-based training. WinCenter Pro audio plugs in transparently
with AVI audio-enabled Windows software.
