MICROSOFT SQL SERVER DELIVERS INDUSTRY'S FIRST INTERNET-BASED TPC-C
BENCHMARK

Establishes New Price/Performance Record With Windows NT Server Running on
Intergraph InterServe Server

REDMOND, WASH. - MAY 28, 1996 - Microsoft Corp. today announced that the
combined power of Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 and Microsoft Internet
Information Server 1.0 set an industry record for price/performance, at
$124 per tpmC (transactions per minute), in the industry's first
Internet-based Transaction Processing Council Benchmark C (TPC-CR)
results.

Microsoft SQL Server running on the Intergraph InterServe MP-610 and
Microsoft Internet Information Server running on the Intergraph Web 300,
both servers based on the Intel Pentium Pro microprocessor, achieved a 12
percent savings in price/performance from the previous record. This
combination also set a uniprocessor throughput record of 1,675 tpmC,
exceeding by 12 percent the previous highest uniprocessor number held by
the IBM AS/400 system and DB2/400 database. In addition, the Microsoft and
Intergraph results were achieved at less than half the total system cost
when compared to the IBM system.

"Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Internet Information Server, along with
the rest of the Microsoft BackOffice family, provide our customers with
everything they need to implement a new class of database applications for
the Internet and corporate intranets," said Rich Tong, general manager of
the desktop and business systems division at Microsoft. "As shown by these
record results, the integration between Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft
Internet Information Server provides customers with high performance and
the industry's best value using standard hardware."

Businesses of all sizes are currently looking for applications that exploit
the power of the Internet and corporate intranets not only for publishing
business information but also to conduct business reliably without
compromising security or data integrity. These results based on the
industry-standard TPC-C benchmark, modeled on a real-world order entry
system with stringent requirements on transactions, demonstrate that
Microsoft is delivering the products and integration required for reliable
Internet and intranet applications.

Microsoft SQL Server 6.5, released last month, is the fastest database on
the Windows NT Server network operating system. Combined with Microsoft
Internet Information Server, it provides unique capabilities to publish
data on the Web. Microsoft Internet Information Server 1.0 is the fastest
Web server on Windows NT Server and allows customers to deploy Web sites
easily in minutes.

"Many customers implementing Internet and intranet solutions are
integrating them with corporate databases," said Wade Patterson, president
of Intergraph Computer Systems. "This result demonstrates that
Intergraph's InterServe family of servers running Microsoft BackOffice
products delivers the most integrated, scalable solution for both
medium-sized and large organizations."

The Microsoft BackOffice family is built on Windows NT Server, the only
network operating system that is multipurpose, scales from the workgroup
to the enterprise, and has intranet and Internet functionality built in.
Microsoft BackOffice consists of Windows NT Server, Microsoft Internet
Information Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server,
Systems Management Server and SNA Server.

The TPC-C benchmark results for the IBM AS/400 uniprocessor system cited
earlier in this release are 1,496 tpmC at $320 per tpmC.
