MOMENTUM FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT SERVER BUILDS AT TELEPHONY EVENT

Leading Telephony Vendors Test Interoperability May 7-9

HONOLULU - MAY 8, 1996 - Microsoft Corp. and GTE Hawaiian Tel this week are
hosting approximately 40 leading computer telephony vendors from around
the world at the fourth Windows Telephony Interoperability Testing Event,
also known as the "TAPI Bake-Off."

More than 80 telephony solutions will be tested on Microsoft Windows
operating system platforms. The telephony solutions being tested include
voice mail, unified messaging systems, interactive voice response systems,
call-center solutions and automated call management software. This testing
will promote maximum interoperability between Windows-based telephony API
(TAPI)-compatible software applications and telephone system hardware.
Software and hardware vendors are testing their applications together on a
wide variety of configurations.

TAPI, an open telephony interface, fosters the development of an array of
more powerful, lower-priced telephony and communications solutions. The
upcoming releases of the Windows NTR Server version 4.0 and Windows NT
Workstation 4.0 operating systems will include TAPI 2.0, making Windows NT
the first high-performance client-server operating system with a native
open telephony interface.

"We're pleased with the depth and breadth of Windows-based telephony
products being tested here this week," said Mike Nash, group product
manager for Windows NT Server at Microsoft Corp. "We're thrilled with the
growing number of companies building telephony solutions on Windows NT
Server."

"GTE is pleased to work with Microsoft in supporting the industry's
development of creative and innovative customer applications," said Keith
Nagata, director of the GTE Technology & Marketing Center. "The Bake-Off
provides us a perfect opportunity to demonstrate how our advanced network
capabilities become a key ingredient in the delivery of valuable customer
solutions."
