A World First for Networks '96 UK
(June 25-27th: Mitel - Stand 8G22 Hall 8)

Mitel to introduce NeVaDa (Networked Voice and Data) voiceLAN networking
product at Networks '96 in the UK.

As part of its global voiceLAN strategy, Mitel is using its first
appearance at the Networks Show for the UK launch of NeVaDa (Networked
Voice and Data), the world's first solution to integrate real-time voice,
video and data onto a common, enterprise-wide 155Mbps ATM LAN backbone.
Using a single protocol to carry voice and data allows PBX and LAN traffic
to share one infrastructure, avoiding the expense and overhead of two
separate networks. By introducing advanced telephony features to the LAN,
NeVaDa allows organisations to gain competitive advantage through the use
of CTI, multimedia and mixed media applications.

NeVaDa also eliminates network congestion through the use of switched LAN
technologies and its 155Mbps broadband enterprise-wide backbone links. An
essential component of NeVaDa is an ATM/SDH module that has been jointly
developed by Mitel and Madge Networks. First shipments of this NeVaDa
module will begin in early July.

Mitel's managing director, Alan Kirkham is enthusiastic about this major
development: "NeVaDa combines the very best telephony and computing
technologies and offers our customers a clear pathway to a multimeda
future which would, quite simply, be impossible if voice and data networks
remain separate."

NeVaDa will allow organizations to merge separate data and voice
infrastructures and then transport multiple media throughout the
enterprise at 155 Mbps via one high-capacity fiber backbone. NeVaDa also
extends network management capabilities, enhances support and provides
end-to-end control of the system. Mitel realises that a converged voice
and data infrastructure will present its own unique network management
issues and has enhanced its PBX management package OPS MANAGER to allow
integration with HP OpenView (HP OV). The new variant, which will allow
the same terminal to monitor both voice and data, will be called OPS
MANAGER for HP OV.

While NeVaDa as a whole will be available mid-1996, benefits can be
realised now, because the main components - Mitel's standard SX-2000 LIGHT
PBX (Private Branch Exchange) and Madge MultiNet switching hub products -
can be purchased today. This allows voice and data convergence to be
achieved simply through the introduction of the NeVaDa voiceLAN module.

MediaPath - A World First

Also being demonstrated is MediaPath - another world first from Mitel.
MediaPath offers a one-stop, voice, fax, email, unified messaging,
work-flow, LAN, CTI, Internet communications platform from a single
Microsoft NT server.

MediaPath supports up to 96 clients using Windows 95 and a telephone via
the LAN, integrating PBX-type functionality - voice, voice mail, email and
Internet - to offer comprehensive real time and transactional
communications.

As Microsoft Exchange and Back Office reside at the core of the software,
work flow, unified messaging and relational database applications are at
the users command.

USB Demonstration - A World First

Mitel will also be demonstrating the world's first voice communication
between a telephone and a PC over the Universal Serial Bus (USB). The
demonstration uses Mitel's USB Telephone together with Mitel's TAPI
compliant telephony application, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft's
Windows 95 with soon-to-be released Universal Serial Bus and Microsoft's
WDM support. USB technology allows PC telephony peripherals, like Mitel's
USB Telephone, to enable voice applications on the PC using a simple "plug
and play" interconnection between the peripheral device and the PC,
eliminating the need to open the PC enclosure.

Carl Stork, Director, Windows Platform at Microsoft remarked: "By being the
first to demonstrate voice communication between a PC and telephone over
USB, Mitel continues to be a recognised leader in USB telephony. Microsoft
is committed to providing USB support on Windows in the second half of
1996. We are encouraged that market leaders like Mitel, whose efforts in
making USB peripherals a reality, are accelerating the roll-out of USB
into the marketplace."

CTI Test Drive - A Unique Opportunity - Stand B90 Hall 9

Mitel will be playing a major role in the show's special interactive, CTI
'Test Drive' area, in partnership with Novell. The 'Test Drive' area will
feature 25 desks each with its own PC and telephones. Visitors will be
guided through the demonstrations of CTI applications by a presenter using
a large screen display. Huw Jones, marketing manager for Mitel's CTI
products comments: "The CTI 'Test Drive' provides a unique 'hands-on'
experience of the significant business benefits of linking PCs and
telephones in a single networked environment."

Mitel is an international manufacturer of business telecommunications
systems, and a leading supplier of computer telephony integration for
telebusiness applications. Mitel has sold in excess of 180,000 PBX systems
in over 83 countries. Revenue for the fiscal year 1995 was $588.8 million
(Cdn).

Introducing NeVaDa

NeVaDa - integrates real-time voice, video, and data onto a common,
enterprise-wide, 155Mbps ATM LAN backbone.

NeVaDa - avoids the expense and overhead of implementing and supporting two
separate networks - by using a single protocol to carry voice and data
alike. PBX and LAN traffic share one infrastructure.

NeVaDa - allows organisations to gain competitive advantage - by
introducing advanced telephony features to the LAN, and facilitating the
use of CTI, multimedia and mixed media applications.

NeVaDa - eliminates network congestion - through the use of switched LAN
technologies and its 155Mbps broadband enterprise-wide backbone links.

NeVaDa - rationalises campus/MAN infrastructures - by using its broadband
links to seamlessly extend PBX and data services to remote sites upto
40kms away.

NeVaDa - protects investment - by providing a migration path for voice and
data services to broadband and multimedia services.
