MetaInfo Announces DNS 2.0 for NT

DNS 2.0 for Windows NT features a Web Graphical Interface, Remote
Management and WINS Integration

Seattle, WA, April 29, 1996: MetaInfo, Inc., a Seattle-based company
specializing in Internet and Intranet system solutions, today announced
that they intend to ship version 2.0 of their Domain Name Service (DNS)
server for Windows NT by May 31, 1996. DNS 2.0 is an RFC-compliant,
UNIX-compatible DNS server which offers offer a full graphical interface
for setup, configuration and maintenance, will be priced at $400 US. "DNS
2.0 is a production-level product that solves NT-based Internet server
problems today," said Jared Vogt, president of MetaInfo. "Our goal is to
give administrators control of their enterprise-wide naming services and
eliminate unnecessary administrative hassles associated with a DNS."

COMPONENTS OF DNS 2.0 FOR WINDOWS NT

MetaInfo's new graphical interface for DNS 2.0 has three components: Easy
Installation; Browser-Based Configuration Manager; and WINS support.

Easy Installation: DNS 2.0 includes an installation wizard that prompts the
user for relevant domain information, simplifying initial configuration.
The goal is to turn a two hour process into a ten minute process.

Browser-Based Configuration Manager: DNS 2.0 includes an http server that
hosts a set of pre-defined WWW forms, and can be viewed using Netscape
Navigator and Microsoft Explorer. It provides users with built-in remote,
cross-platform management usability, and the ability to click on hypertext
links for help. Stringent WWW security is included, applying a standard
username and password model alongside an IP exclusion capability, locking
out all but a few pre-defined IP addresses. WINS Support: DNS v.2.0 also
supports Microsoft's WINS (Windows Internet Naming Service), the
proprietary database created to store names and addresses that are
assigned to machines dynamically on a NET-BIOS network. With DNS 2.0,
administrators gain the advantages of WINS and DHCP on their internal
network while using the required DNS standard across external TCP/IP
networks.

A DIRECT UNIX PORT

DNS 2.0 for Windows NT is a true port of UNIX BIND. This allows DNS 2.0 to
operate in conjunction with UNIX DNS servers, a necessary feature where NT
and UNIX co-exist. The conversion of UNIX DNS to DNS 2.0 for Windows NT
now requires only taking the database files that exist under UNIX and
copying them into DNS 2.0. DNS 2.0 for Windows NT is compliant with all of
the Internet standards and performs all of the essential DNS functions.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING FOR DNS 2.0

DNS 2.0 supports Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 Workstation and Server. Versions
for Intel, Alpha, MIPS and PowerPC are also available. It is scheduled to
ship May 31, 1996; beta versions of the software are in testing cycles
