MERIDIAN DATA ANNOUNCES MAJOR PRICE/PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS ON CD ROM
NETWORK SERVERS AND SUBSYSTEMS

Premium Enterprise Network Servers Get High-End Pentium CPUs, 6x-Speed CD
ROM Drives

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (May 8, 1996) -- Meridian Data, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:
MDCD) today boosted the performance and lowered prices on its premium CD
Net CD ROM Servers and CD NetROM Subsystems. The industry-leading CD
networking solutions allow organizations to easily manage and access CD
ROM-based information over Microsoft Windows NT, Novell NetWare and Banyan
VINES networks.

New CD ROM Network Servers

Meridian's high-end CD Net enterprise servers, configured with 6.7x-speed
CD ROM drives, now employ Pentium 166Mhz processors. Price-reduced at up
to 17%, the premium servers include CD Net Software with advanced
administrative and user management tools for Windows NT, NetWare or VINES
environments. The high-throughput products--ideal for a wide range of
business and governmental applications--provide simultaneous, multi-user
access to up to 56 CD ROM drives per server.

"CD Net Software's advanced caching, memory management and fault tolerance
are designed to take full advantage of Pentium 166Mhz CPUs and fast
6x-speed CD ROM drives," said Robert Wise, product manager at Meridian
Data. "Given CD Net's ability to stream multiple data sets simultaneously
to multiple network users, this means improved system responsiveness
enterprise-wide for the vast majority of existing CD ROM applications."

New Network-Ready Subsystems

Meridian's CD NetROM subsystems facilitate easy integration of the
6.7x-speed drives directly into a wide range of network file servers. In
these applications, the CD ROM resources coexist with other file, database
and communications services. Now price-reduced at up to 16%, the CD NetROM
subsystems are compatible with Meridian's line of optional CD networking
software: CD Net Plus, CD Net for NetWare, CD Net for Windows NT and CD
Net for VINES.

The SCSI CD ROM storage modules include 1, 4, 7 or 14 drives per subsystem,
ISA or EISA host adapter card, power supply, cabling and cabinetry. CD
NetROM bundles--complete 4- or 7-drive subsystems with 10-user version of
CD Net Plus Software--are available for configuring a PC as a peer-to-peer
CD ROM server in Novell network environments.

Pricing and Availability

The new premium CD Net servers and CD NetROM subsystems are available
immediately. Suggested list pricing (U.S.) for the CD Net servers equipped
with Pentium 166Mhz and 6x-speed drives starts at $11,910. Pricing for CD
NetROM subsystems with 6x-speed drives starts at $1,265.

Meridian also offers a complete line of value-priced CD Net servers, CD
NetLink miniservers and CD NetROM subsystems configured with 4x-speed CD
