MAXM ADDS PROTECTION AGAINST INTERNET SECURITY THREATS TO ITS
NETWORK/SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

OEM Partnership with Internet Security Systems Delivers Proactive Security
Management

MCLEAN, VA., MAY 13, 1996 -- MAXM Systems Corporation, a leading provider
of infrastructure operations management software for distributed
enterprise environments, today announced an OEM agreement with Internet
Security Systems (ISS), Inc. to offer Internet Scanner as the first in a
series of solutions to provide powerful management capabilities for the
Internet and Intranets. Internet Scanner, the award-winning network
security audit tool from ISS, helps to monitor and proactively defend open
systems environments against unauthorized access by internal users or
hackers on public networks like the Internet.

The addition of Internet Scanner to MAX/Enterprise software will provide
MAXM users with a method to identify and eliminate Internet security
vulnerabilities in their IT infrastructures. MAX/Enterprise will provide a
means to employ Internet Scanner across multiple platforms and consolidate
the alarm and reporting functions for the security product.

Increasingly, organizations are connecting their internal networks to
widely accessible public networks like the Internet. Internet connections,
however, expose the organization to widespread security threats. Internet
firewalls, a popular security solution, are limited in that they offer no
protection for systems behind the firewall and do not prevent unauthorized
access from internal users. Internet Scanner, used in conjunction with
MAX/Enterprise, will locate security vulnerabilities behind firewalls,
ensure that firewalls have been implemented properly and are maintained
effectively and will report on these functions system-wide.

"MAX/Enterprise and Internet Scanner are ideal partners to jointly provide
proactive, cross-platform, enterprise-wide security" said Pam Casale, vice
president of global marketing for MAXM. "Our agreement with ISS
underscores our commitment to identify and solve systems and network
management problems before they occur."

Designed to report security weaknesses in any networked computer site,
Internet Scanner can mimic a computer intruder and find ways to "break
into" systems. It does so by probing for 130 types of vulnerabilities in
highly confidential computer files, systems and networks. As new types of
system vulnerabilities emerge, ISS upgrades Internet Scanner with patches
and information, so that the product evolves with the rapidly changing
computing environment.

When integrated with MAX/Enterprise, Internet Scanner operates independent
of platform to probe from the MAX/Enterprise server. It scans any IP based
device for UNIX, OS/2, Windows or Windows NT clients on TCP/IP networks to
find over 130 types of known security vulnerabilities. In addition to
identifying vulnerabilities, Internet Scanner's built- in reporting
capabilities provide operators with suggested next steps to prevent
break-ins before they happen.

Internet Scanner is available now and pricing starts at $895.
