Intel Showcases First Multi-Player, VRML/JAVA*- Based Application for the
World Wide Web

Company Announces first Web-Based Liquid Reality* Application with its
Virtual Reality Game, "In the System"

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 10, 1996 -- Intel Corporation today brings the
first application which integrates Java* and Virtual Reality Modeling
Language (VRML) to the World Wide Web (www.intel.com). These technologies
allow participants from around the world to share interactive, 3D virtual
spaces in an entertaining environment. "In the System," is a multi-player
3D race against the clock through the inside of a PC and the Internet. The
object of the game is to gather the components of a PC and build one. "In
the System," was created with Dimension X's Liquid Reality* VRML tool-kit
and designed to showcase the power of Pentium" processor-based personal
computers.

"We invite people to experience the best new web technologies in the
`Technology First' area of our web site," said Sally Fundakowski,
director, Online Marketing Group. "In the System" also incorporates
Realistic Sound Experience (RSX) audio technology from Intel's Internet
Architecture Laboratories (IAL) which enhances the players immersive
experience via 3D sound effects. "By putting these types of technology
into interesting and entertaining contexts, we hope to show surfers the
great Internet experiences made possible by advanced Pentium
processor-based systems," added Fundakowski.

VRML co-creator and 3D visionary, Mark Pesce says, "`In the System' is a
breakthrough in the up-and-coming marriage of Java and VRML. Working
together, they create an interface to cyberspace which is both intuitive
and fun."

Intel's web site will continue to feature new technologies, applications
and additional "In the System" modules over the coming months.

Technology Defined

Developed by San Francisco-based Dimension X, Liquid Reality is the first
toolkit to combine Java and VRML. As such, the Liquid Reality framework
was easily extended to support the emerging VRML 2.0 specification. The
Liquid Reality toolkit is available via Dimension X's web site
(www.dimensionx.com). "The 'In The System' experience is the first of its
kind," stated Karl Jacob, President and CEO of Dimension X. "It showcases
the flexibility of Liquid Reality and our new multi-user engine by
incorporating 3D graphics, 3D sound and interactive gaming behaviors to
provide an unparalleled Internet experience."

Key to the performance of applications created with Liquid Reality is a 3D
Dynamically Linked Library (DLL) that accelerates Java's 3D rendering
performance. This 3D DLL is optimized to tap the power of fast Pentium
processors. For the best "In the System" experience, Intel recommends
client systems with 133-MHz or greater Pentium processor.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of
personal computer, networking and communications products.
