INTEL AND BROADBAND TECHNOLOGIES TO JOIN EFFORTS TO ENABLE HIGH-SPEED
INTERNET ACCESS OVER FUTURE TELEPHONE NETWORKS

Efforts Will Address Internet Bandwidth Bottleneck; Provide New
Capabilities and Faster Access Speeds for World Wide Web Surfing

Research Triangle Park, NC, May 13, 1996 -- Intel Corporation and BroadBand
Technologies, Inc., today announced a joint effort enabling telephone
companies to deliver Internet access to computer users via high-speed
residential fiber to the curb (FTTC) connections. The companies will work
together to develop technology that allows PCs to access the Internet and
the World Wide Web at significantly accelerated speeds compared with
standard telephone modems.

The companies will develop technology for PC interface cards that will
support two way Internet and World Wide Web access, at speeds greater than
1,000 times of today's high-speed home PC telephone modems. Under the
agreement, Intel will design and develop hardware and software technology
to enable home PCs to use new fiber to the curb networks which are now
being tested by phone companies for accessing the Internet and other
on-line services. Intel will license this technology to BroadBand
Technologies, who intends to offer PC interface cards along with its Fiber
Loop Access (FLX) System.

"Fiber to the curb along with other broadband network options such as ISDN
and xDSL will prove to be very important to the future of this market
segment. We view high speed access to the PC as a key facet for PC market

in delivering this technology."

Products resulting from the joint development efforts are expected to be
available from BroadBand Technologies in 1997, during the same time frame
that phone companies are expected to begin mass deployment of advanced
broadband services based on their new switched digital networks.
