Intel Establishes Accelerated Graphics Port Implementors Forum to Promote
High-Performance 3D Graphics for PCs

ATI, Cirrus Logic, IBM, Microsoft and S3 to Attend First Accelerated
Graphics Port Developers Conference on May 30 and 31

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. -- May 8, 1996 -- Intel Corporation today announced the
creation of an open industry group to promote Intel's new Accelerated
Graphics Port (AGP) interface specification. The specification, which is
expected to be available later this month, allows graphics hardware
vendors and system OEMs to design AGP compatible hardware to greatly
increase 3D performance on PCs at all price points. Intel also announced
that ATI, Cirrus Logic, IBM, Microsoft and S3 will attend the first AGP
Developers Conference to be held at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel on May
30 and 31.

First disclosed by Mike Aymar, vice president, Desktop Products Group,
Intel Corporation, in a keynote address at the recent WinHEC conference,
Intel's AGP interface specification is designed to give PC graphics
controllers a low cost, high bandwidth, low latency connection to system
memory through future chip sets which support the specification.

"AGP will extend current 3D performance on the PC to new levels of visual
realism and bring sophisticated 3D graphics to a much wider PC customer
base," said Aymar. "AGP has captured widespread interest and acceptance,
and the new AGP Implementors Forum, the Developers Conference this month,
and other activities to follow will provide powerful vehicles for rapid
adoption of the specification. In fact, we expect the first Accelerated
Graphics Port compatible products and systems to begin appearing in volume
during the second half of 1997."

AGP Implementors Forum

Sponsored by Intel Corporation, the charter of the AGP Implementors Forum
is to foster design and production of graphics hardware products and PC
systems which comply with the Accelerated Graphics Port interface
specification. It is the intention of the group to provide members with
the following benefits:

Access to technical support, compatibility tools
 Invitations to interoperability testing workshops
Invitations to participate in industry marketing events

Membership to this open industry forum is available for an annual fee of
$2,500. Engineers and managers from PC OEMs, graphics components
manufacturers and add-in graphics card vendors are expected to comprise
the bulk of the new group's membership.

Upcoming AGP Developers Conference

The first AGP Developers Conference will be held on May 30-31 at the
Marriott Hotel, Santa Clara, California. The event, hosted by Intel, will
start with a management overview, followed by detailed AGP interface
training on the afternoon of the first and through the second day.
Membership in the AGP Implementors Forum is not required to enroll for the
Developers Conference.

Conference attendees will learn about AGP market opportunities and receive
training and materials needed to design and produce products compatible
with the AGP interface specification. A highlight of the two-day event
will be a technical showcase featuring demonstrations of advanced 3D
graphics on a variety of special-purpose and high- end platforms available
today. A fee of $495 will be charged for each individual attending the
conference.

Specification Availability and More Information

A draft of the AGP interface specification is expected to be available for
downloading from a special web site maintained by Intel on May 10.
Revision 1.0 of the specification will be distributed to attendees at the
first AGP Developers Conference, May 30. For more information regarding
the AGP specification and the AGP Implementors Forum, including enrollment
forms, the following web site is now available:
http://www.teleport.com/~agfxport. Registration information and forms for
the Developers Conference are also available at the same web site.

Widespread Support for AGP Specification and Forum Growing

"As an active participant in refining the AGP specification, we are excited
about

the dramatic 3D performance improvements and cost savings that AGP makes
possible," said Henry Quan, vice president of marketing for ATI
Technologies. "Now that the major technical issues are resolved, the
industry-wide AGP Implementors Forum is critical to ensure that the AGP
benefits will reach mass market consumer and corporate PCs in 1997."

"We have worked closely with Intel on the Accelerated Graphics Port and
will continue to support this specification as a member of the AGP
Implementers Forum," said Jim Fontaine, vice president of product
marketing for Cirrus Logic's Graphics Company.

"AGP maps directly into our strategy to bring high-bandwidth demanding
functions like 3D graphics and videoconferencing to the mainstream market
because it will significantly reduce the cost of implementing these
capabilities. Everyone benefits from the creation of a mass market for
advanced PC computing."

"The IBM PC Company applauds the computing platform enhancements AGP will
deliver," said Ozzie Osborne, vice president of Systems Strategy, IBM PC
Company. "IBM's participation in the AGP Implementors Forum will give us
the opportunity to work with the industry to increase 3D performance in
future IBM PC Company products."

"Intel's AGP technology will enable the next level of 3D performance by
providing the necessary high speed connection between the processor and
the graphics subsystem," said Neal Margulis, senior vice president,
Research & Technology for S3 Incorporated. "Participation in the AGP
Implementors Forum will allow S3 to take full advantage of the AGP
connection -- building on the performance of its current- generation ViRGE
3D accelerators to deliver even more realistic and compelling end user
experiences."

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of
personal computer, networking and communications products.
