INFORONICS ADDS SESSION MANAGEMENT TO ITS WORLD-WIDE WEB DEVELOPMENT
SERVICES

Littleton, MA - Inforonics announces the addition of browser-neutral
session management to its World-Wide Web services. Session management,
which enables Web servers to retain session information with a particular
user, has important applications in market research, on-line ordering, and
for-fee based Internet services.

One advantage of session management is that it can be implemented with or
without registration. With registration, the user provides profile
information which the server stores and establishes identity based on a
user ID or password, or both. Alternatively, the user can be prompted by
the browser for certain user profile, e.g. preferences, interests. This
information is then stored on the server for use during a session. This
latter approach addresses the end-user's need for privacy, and offers a
powerful marketing tool to the content provider for analyzing and
reporting audience data.

With its session management toolset Inforonics is able to develop powerful
Web applications. In the case of site-usage reports, Inforonics can now
offer information on individual end-user activity in addition, to host
data already provided to customers.

Session management will also enable content providers to capture
"clicks/reams" (the paths individual users take when they navigate a
site). With this information, content providers can program their site to
deliver Web presentations tailored to a given user profile, and make
informed decisions about hyperlinks and other factors that affect site
organization.

Session management supports a number of applications including the
"shopping basket" which allows users to select products as they travel
through a site. It can also be used with for-fee based services as a
metering tool to track and charge for usage.

The system developed by Inforonics creates a unique session ID once a user
accesses a page on the content provider's site. The session ID is encoded
in the path and stays with the user as he/she navigates through the site.
Providing customers with a browser-neutral session management capability
was an important requirement for Inforonics. "While Netscape has developed
its own client side "cookie" mechanism, our customers cannot afford to
ignore the population of users not served by Netscape," stated Bruce
Buckland, President, Inforonics, Inc. "Basic authentication is poorly
supported by many browsers and can cause all sorts of user-interface
problems. Browser-neutral session management allows us to control the user
interface and deliver the full benefits of session control to the
customer."

Inforonics' premium World-Wide Web services - CustomWeb and BusinessWeb -
are designed for organizations with complex database, search and
retrieval, order processing and reporting requirements. These services
cover project design, database development, html design and
implementation, hosting and site maintenance.
