IDEA Announces the IDEA Internet Client Station, a Network Computer for the
Business Marketplace

AFFORDABLE, DISKLESS WORKSTATION PROVIDES GRAPHICAL BROWSING, HOST COMPUTER
ACCESS AND ABILITY TO EXECUTE JAVA APPLETS AT THE DESKTOP

SAN FRANCISCO - May 20, 1996 - IDEA, a leading provider of multiprotocol
internetworking solutions for mainframe, midrange, UNIX and personal
computer environments announced today at an Oracle press conference that
the IDEA Internet Client Station, a new Web/Java-enabled graphical desktop
platform announced on April 29, 1996, will comply with the Network
Computer (NC) reference profile. The NC is Oracle's implementation of
easy-to-use, low-cost computing devices based on open Internet standards.
IDEA Internet Client Station samples are currently available in limited
quantities and will begin shipping in volume during Q3 of this year.

Oracle, IDEA and other industry leaders joined together to define a
standard for Internet devices used in communications and commerce. This
standard will enable a new class of Internet computing devices and will
ensure compatibility among them.

The IDEA Internet Client Station, which was unveiled at CEBIT in Germany
last March, is a true "Internet computer" providing graphical browsing,
SNA host access, multiprotocol communications, office automation and the
ability to execute Java applets at the desktop. For businesses, it offers
the benefits of reduced support costs, application portability and host
connectivity at a price point significantly below that of a PC.

"Support for the Network Computing standard is very important to our
customers," said Thomas S. Bednarik, Executive Vice President, IDEA. "Now
the industry has a truly open architecture to support best-of-breed
solutions. At IDEA, we're seeing a great deal of interest among our
Fortune 500 and State and Local government users who are looking to extend
their applications beyond the limitations of character-based terminals.
Until now, the only alternatives for direct graphical network access have
been PC's and UNIX workstations. The Network Computer offers users a
powerful and cost-effective alternative."

IDEA

IDEA designs, manufactures and markets data communications and networking
solutions that enable end-users to easily access data located on diverse
hosts and servers within heterogeneous enterprise networks. IDEA products
include IDEAcomm client software and emulation boards, IDEAConcert
communication processors for access to AS/400, mainframe and UNIX hosts
and IDEA Transaction Stations and Desktop Client Stations, which unify
traditional terminal and PC LAN technologies. IDEA has also recently
introduced a suite of Internet products, including the IDEA Internet
Terminal Server, which provides Web browsing access for SNA terminals and
the IDEA Internet Host Server, which provides highly secure, real-time
access to IBM host data from any standard Web browser.

IDEA products are targeted to users who need access to IBM mainframes,
AS/400s, UNIX and other TCP/IP-based systems from terminals, PC's or
workstations. With an installed base of more than one million seats
worldwide, customers include all sizes of industrial and manufacturing
enterprises as well as entertainment and service companies, financial and
academic institutions and federal and state agencies. IDEA's home page is
