Harlequin Releases WebMaker 2.2

Acclaimed FrameMaker-to-HTML conversion tool now includes RapidRules and
Java Applet together with other new features.

BOSTON, May 14 1996

Global software developer Harlequin announced today the release of WebMaker
2.2, the latest version of its $99 multi-platform software system that
converts FrameMaker documents into HTML, the hypertext markup language
required for publishing on the World Wide Web. WebMaker 2.2, which
includes Internet-based technical support and comprehensive documentation,
is now available for purchase directly from Harlequin's Web site. A free
upgrade is available for registered WebMaker customers.

WebMaker 2.2 turns FrameMaker into a powerful HTML authoring package. The
package offers customizable conversion of text, graphics, tables, and
equations and is an inexpensive way to extend FrameMaker beyond the
standard text-to-HTML conversion which is included with FrameMaker 5.

More Power and Flexibility: Rapid Rules

WebMaker 2.2 includes a new feature, called RapidRules, which provides
auto-configuration capabilities for document conversions.

RapidRules analyzes a FrameMaker document and builds a conversion template
to create HTML which closely resembles the original document. RapidRules
examines the FrameMaker tags and intelligently selects the appropriate
WebMaker conversion rule from its standard library.

"RapidRules automatically creates a conversion template for one button
creation of HTML and still maintains the ability to customize the complete
conversion process." said Sumner Saitz, Product Marketing Manager. "Wih
RapidRules, WebMaker 2.2 has greater power and flexibility than previous
versions while significantly increasing its ease of use", he added.

Java Applet: Navigation Panel

Also inlcuded in the 2.2 release is a full-featured WebMaker navigation
panel developed using Sun Microsystems' Java. This navigation panel
enables publishers to include a scrolable table of contents at the top of
a web page for easy and quick access to topics located anywhere in the web
document.

"We are delighted to be incorporating the most up-to-date web-development
techniques in our products," said Peter Bayley, Harlequin's Marketing
Director. "The inclusion of Java Applets in a commercial product such as
WebMaker continues to demonstrate our broad base of cutting-edge
development expertise."

Additional New Features

WebMaker 2.2 also includes an array of other new features to confirm the
$99 product's position as the leading FrameMaker-to-HTML conversion tool.
In addition to RapidRules and the Java navigation panel, the 2.2 release
includes a variety of other feature enhancements and performance
improvements. These include a redesigned user interface for greater ease
of use; support for table straddles and table captions for more complex
table conversions; external hyperlink support from within tables; and
improvements to the graphics and FrameMaker drawing conversion features.

WebMaker is available for Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX platforms.
