New Internet Security Technology To Allow The Public To Conduct Secure
Transactions With The Federal Government Over The Internet

FRONTIER TECHNOLOGIES POISED TO BECOME DEFACTO INTERNET/INTRANET SECURITY
STANDARD FOR GOVERNMENT AND COMMERCIAL SECTORS

MEQUON, WI -- May 20, 1996 -- Frontier Technologies, pioneer of Intranet
and Internet solutions today announced the first Internet cryptography
technology that will enable the public to conduct secure transactions with
the federal government over the Internet. Frontier Technologies is working
with the Federal Security Infrastructure program's Paperless Federal
Transactions For The Public Project in an effort to realize Vice President
Al Gore's vision to provide all Americans with the capability to conduct
secure transactions with the federal government over the Internet.

"Imagine this: A business woman walks into a post office, presents a
picture ID, and is given a 'public key.' Using this key card, she
electronically signs a federal contract and transmits it over the National
Information Infrastructure to a contracting agency. This transaction is
valid, secure, and paperless," stated Vice President Al Gore in the
National Performance Review Reengineering Through Information Technology
report on September 7, 1993.

Confidential and sensitive transactions such as exchanging tax information
and checking on social security benefits over the Internet are examples of
the secure transactions which will soon become possible for the public.
The security will also provide the means for individuals to provide
digital signatures into their transactions verifying their identity to the
federal government.

Frontier Technologies is providing the secure Web client (browser) from
their existing product line which has been enhanced for the government
requirements of this program and the secure Web server-SuperWeb Server, a
full-featured WWW server, which has also been enhanced for the government
requirements.

"Frontier Technologies has expended tremendous effort to develop secure
Internet and Intranet client/server authentication technology that provide
the necessary security components for the realization of the truly Secure
Information Superhighway," said Dr. Prakash Ambegaonkar, CEO of Frontier
Technologies. "For the very first time, Internet and Intranet users will
be assured of secure transactions which can be verified by both the sender
and the recipient. This will make it possible for confidential
transactions with the federal government as well as with commercial
entities."

Phase I of The Paperless Transactions For The Public Project will commence
by the end of May 1996. At that time, keycards will be given to initial
subscribers which will allow them to securely use World Wide Web
applications. Keycard holders will be given signed certificates. Using the
keycard and an Internet server to identify the initial test "secure web"
sites, the card holders will be able to securely exchange information with
the server to identify the initial test "secure web" sites, the
cardholders will be able to securely exchange information with the server.
Examples of this exchanged information are, social security benefits,
personal tax information, and payroll information.

By the Fall of 1996, Phase II of the Paperless Transactions For The Public
Project will commence. The application will be broadened to include
electronic messaging and electronic commerce. This phase supports an
increase in the total number of operational keycards, provides on-line
certificate-verification through the Certificate Authority, provides
directory services for messaging-based applications, and supports a wider
variety of applications. Completion of this phase will provide for
increased access to Federal transactions. In short, Phase II will reenact
Vice President Gore's vision.

About The Federal Security Infrastructure Program On September 7, 1993,
Vice President Al Gore issued the Reengineering Through Information
Technology National Performance Review. In this report the need for a
Secure Information Infrastructure was stressed. The Federal Security
Infrastructure Program was chartered in April 1995, on the recommendation
of the National Information Infrastructure Task Force and the Government
Information Technology Services Working Group. The FSI Program will
coordinate, operationally oversee, monitor, implement, and report on the
development of an information security infrastructure to support
electronic commerce, electronic messaging, and other applications and
support services to users. More information about the program may be found
