New driving CD features thousands of mock tests

Following the success of its first Driving Instructor program, Europress is
to launch a new version which includes impressive video sequences, and all
the official car and motor cycle questions from the written driving test
which candidates will face from July 1.

Driving Instructor 2 uses this bank of 630 questions to give learners a
real idea of what the written test holds for them - and also enables them
to improve their chances of passing by randomly producing thousands of
mock tests.

In a true representation of the real tests, Driving Instructor 2 generates
35 multiple choice questions to be answered in 40 minutes. They are based
on 12 wide ranging topics from understanding basic signs to 'road rage'
situations. The program marks users, giving them the correct answers and
working out their percentage success. The pass rate for the written test
will be 75%.

Apart from the written test, many new video clips will be seen in Driving
Instructor 2. They are combined with graphics and sound to produce an
easy-to-use course on how to pass your driving test, then continue to be a
safe driver. It even includes an electronic version of the Highway Code!

In addition to detailed tuition on driving techniques, Driving Instructor 2
also includes advice on buying and maintaining a car, vehicle security,
the law for drivers and motorway driving.

"Ninety per cent of people who apply to take the driving test are under the
age of 21," says Europress chairman, Derek Meakin. "They are today's
computer generation. Most of them are very familiar with the PC and it is
at them that Driving Instructor 2 is mainly aimed.

"Taking their first steps by using the keyboard and mouse, instead of the
steering wheel and gear lever will give them more confidence to go out on
the road and put the theory into practice. The new Driving Instructor
program will also help them come to terms with the written test which
looms on the horizon for all learner drivers.

"The idea of using a PC to help make people better drivers has been
welcomed by insurance companies and the instructors themselves. Government
figures show that drivers between the ages of 17 and 25 are involved in
more than half of all road accidents, and those between 17 and 21 are
responsible for the deaths of more the 1,000 people in the UK each year.

"This program is designed not only to help them pass the test, but to make
them much more aware of their capabilities and responsibilities when they
have finally thrown away their L-plates."

Driving Instructor 2 is due to launch early in May costing $(UK)29.99. It
is being previewed at this show.
