ELECTRONIC ARTS TO SHIP TRIPLE PLAY 97 FOR THE PLAYSTATION AND PC-CD

EA SPORTS Signs Major League Baseball License to Fill Out Stellar Lineup

LOS ANGELES, CALIF., May 16, 1996 -- Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS), a
leading global interactive entertainment software company, today announced
that it will unveil Triple Play 97 for the PlayStation and PC-CD at the
Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) trade show, to be held from May 16-18,
1996, in Los Angeles, California. The EA SPORTS division also announced
that it signed a multi-year agreement with Major League Baseball, the
first time ever the company has formed an alliance with this prestigious
sports organization. Triple Play 97 is scheduled to ship on both platforms
in June 1996, at a suggested retail price of $59.95.

The combination of the Major League Baseball (MLB) license and Major League
Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) license makes Triple Play 97 the most
authentic baseball title for the casual and die-hard baseball fan.
Realistic major league baseball stadiums are beautifully recreated in a
3-D presentation to give game players the ultimate experience of playing
in the big leagues. In addition, Upper Deck trading cards feature real
player photos and all major league team logos. Providing further baseball
depth, the MLBPA license gives Triple Play 97 over 700 big league players,
the 1996 opening day rosters and updated statistics for every team. Each
player's physical attributes are accurately recreated to match their
height, weight, skin tone and hair color.

Before the baseball action begins, game players are introduced to Triple
Play 97 through a dynamic 3-D-rendered, 360 degree opening sequence using
Electronic Arts' Virtual Stadium technology. Virtual Stadium takes players
on a journey from above the stadium for an aerial view of the field,
followed by a sweep through the crowd, then ultimately to the mound for
the first pitch. The stadium surroundings are impeccable -- from the
intimidating "Green Monster" fence in Boston's Fenway Park and the
half-opened roof in Toronto's SkyDome to the ivy fence at Wrigley Field in
Chicago.

The gameplay in Triple Play 97 is enhanced by Electronic Arts' MotionDesign
technology to give players the feeling they are actually participating in
a real game. MotionDesign is a hybrid animation technology that takes the
best of the motion capture process, a high-tech software translation of
athletes' real-life body movements, and melds it with traditional
animation techniques. Each batter and pitcher are accurately recreated
using a motion capture technique which portrays smooth, realistic swings
and incredibly fluid pitching motions. Remarkable animations are featured
throughout every game, including hard-nosed runners going head-first into
second, aggressive fielders diving for balls, and even players who
occasionally collide while hustling for a pop-up.

TRIPLE PLAY 97 features a variety of multiplayer modes that will challenge
even the finest of baseball players. On the PlayStation, eight players can
hookup and slug it out. The PC-CD version multiplayer capabilities are
done via real-time modem competition or up to six can play simultaneously
using the Gravis GrIP System.

To enhance the baseball atmosphere further, TRIPLE PLAY 97 features over
4,000 phrases of baseball commentary and play-by-play. Former Toronto Blue
Jays announcer Jim Hughson provided all the broadcast audio in the game.
Seven different camera views, including a reverse view, allows players to
zoom in on a crucial steal at second base or use a wide angle to view the
action at every position on the field. Players who love baseball's power
game can also swing for the fences with up to eight competitors in Triple
Play 97's "Home Run Derby."

Steve Rechtschaffner, producer of TRIPLE PLAY 97, commented, "Triple Play
97 for the PlayStation and PC is the best baseball game ever made by EA
SPORTS. Baseball purists and gaming enthusiasts alike will be blown away
by the combination of the 3-D-rendered stadiums, realistic-looking
players, a variety of camera views, and all the MLB teams, players and
updated stats. TRIPLE PLAY made its successful debut as a cartridge
baseball title in 1995 and EA SPORTS looks forward to establishing a
leading position in the baseball category on 32-bit systems and PC this
year."
