ROAD & TRACK PRESENTS: THE NEED FOR SPEED SPECIAL EDITION

Electronic Arts' Top Selling PC Racing Simulation Now Improved With Added
Eight Player Network Support

LOS ANGELES, MAY 16, 1996 BOOTH 10311 -- Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS), a
global independent interactive entertainment software company, and ROAD &
TRACK, the premier automotive enthusiast magazine, announce an enhanced
multiplayer version of the authentic, high-speed racing game: ROAD & TRACK
PRESENTS: THE NEED FOR SPEED -- Special Edition. The result of this latest
collaboration is the chance to enter a competitive world of
high-performance driving in one of eight purebred exotic sports cars. EA
has responded to players' requests for multiplayer capability by
re-releasing NFS with an eight-player network option. Two new tracks have
also been added, bringing the total to nine.

Multiplayer network racing adds exciting new gameplay to the already
best-selling Need for Speed racing simulation. Released in September 1995,
the original PC-CD version of The Need for Speed is still in the top ten
of many software retailers charts. Two new tracks, in-game map, changeable
time of day settings, and 12 in-game music tracks have also been added to
drive adrenaline levels even higher.

For all THE NEED FOR SPEED PRODUCTS, ROAD & TRACK, renowned in automotive
circles for its expertise and in-depth knowledge of high-performance
automobiles, has provided expertise to help create realistic racing
simulations with performance statistics straight from its own road tests.
ROAD & TRACK also contributed to the artistic look and feel of the
products by lending its world-class photography to the design. A car
showcase section, augmented by voice-over from the editors, displays key
performance measurements as well as engine, chassis, and driveline
information.

Real-time, digital audio samples taken on a test track are used in the
actual gameplay with enhanced 3D sound. The CD-quality audio effects
include skids, crashes, speed shifting, and the distinctive roar of each
car's engine. And for a visual thrill, Electronic Arts put each of the
eight purebred exotic sports cars through its paces on a two-week video
shoot, using both onboard and helicopter-mounted cameras.

The physics model, fine-tuned with input from ROAD & TRACK editors,
accurately simulates each car's performance, including handling,
acceleration, body roll, lateral-g capability and more, adding greatly to
the diversity and authenticity of the game. An improved physics model,
photo-realistic graphics, and light-sourcing technology are also included,
as well as a 3-D engine that enables the player to switch on-the-fly among
four real-time racing views: In-Car, Tail-Cam, Road-Cam and Heli-Cam.

ROAD & TRACK PRESENTS: THE NEED FOR SPEED SE will be available for PC-CD
(supports both DOS and Windows '95) with an SRP of $59.95.
