DELL INTRODUCES TWO NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE PCs WITH LOWER PRICES

Pentium Pro Processor Systems Starting at $2,599

AUSTIN, TEXAS, MAY 6, 1996 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL)
today added two new Pentium Pro processor systems to its award-winning
Dell Dimension XPS Pro product line. The new Dell Dimension XPS Pro180n
and Pro200n are designed for small and medium-sized business customers who
want the fastest-possible PC for running 32-bit software applications
under the Windows 95 or Windows NT operating systems. The new Dell
Dimension XPS Pro PCs are the company's most powerful Pentium Pro
processor systems ever, yet they are priced beginning at $2,599 for a
fully-configured system, making them an exceptional value. Dell will begin
taking orders immediately for the new PCs.

The company also announced that it will soon introduce a new OptiPlex PC
based on the Pentium Pro processor for large corporate accounts and
government customers.

"The industry's transition to 32-bit applications is accelerating, and our
customers are more concerned than ever about performance," said Ben
Bentzin, director of worldwide Dimension product marketing. "Our new XPS
Pro systems offer customers the highest performance available for running
32-bit applications under either Windows NT or Windows 95." Mr. Bentzin
said Dell's internal tests indicate that the new 200-megahertz (MHz)
Dimension XPS Pro systems run 32-bit software significantly faster than
Dell's 166MHz Pentium processor systems under the Windows 95 and Windows
NT operating systems.

The new XPS Pro systems include a richer feature set and higher performance
than their predecessors in the Dell Dimension product family, at a lower
price. The company is able to offer the new systems at these prices in
part because its efficient, direct business model allows it to pass along
component cost savings quickly to its customers.

RICHER FEATURE SET

The new Dell Dimension XPS Pro180n and Pro200n systems are based on the 180
and 200 MHz Pentium Pro processors, respectively, and include the new
440FX chipset that was unveiled by Intel today. The 440FX chipset offers
higher performance than the previous Pentium Pro processor chipset because
it supports faster EDO (Extended Data Out) memory, and has an enhanced
design for routing data through the processor's input/output (I/O) paths.

In addition to EIDE hard drives, the new XPS Pro systems support
high-performance Fast SCSI II hard drives. SCSI disk drives have long been
the performance leaders in the PC industry, but until now their prices
have kept them out of reach for most mainstream computer buyers. Dell
initially will offer a 2-gigabyte(GB) SCSI drive combined with Adaptec's
2940 Ultra Wide SCSI controller with its new XPS Pro systems, and expects
to offer higher capacity SCSI hard drives as they become available.

Like previous XPS Pro systems, the new PCs also include support for ECC
(error checking and correcting) memory. Dell's implementation of ECC
employs standard parity memory modules combined with the functionality of
the 440FX chipset. Because it does not use traditional ECC memory modules
which have integrated logic chips, Dell's implementation of ECC is more
cost effective than traditional approaches.

The new Dell Dimension XPS Pro systems also feature a new chassis that
offers easier access to internal components through an improved layout,
more efficient cooling, and three 3.5-inch / two 5.25-inch external bays.

Dell will offer a powerful new video solution with its XPS Pro systems --
the Number Nine Imagine 128 Series 2 card. Like its award-winning
predecessor, the Imagine 128, the Imagine 128 Series 2 card offers
extremely fast performance, particularly in 32-bit applications; it is
especially valuable in graphics and video-intensive environments such as
desktop publishing, complex imaging and multimedia.
