DELL SOLIDIFIES PRICING LEADERSHIP

Company Reduces Prices Across Desktop, Notebook Lines Aggressive Strategy,
Direct Model Provide Competitive Advantage

AUSTIN, TEXAS, MAY 1, 1996 -- Coming on the heels of aggressive reductions
in prices across its network server product line, Dell Computer Corp.
(Nasdaq: DELL) today announced significant price reductions of up to 21
percent across its Dell OptiPlex desktop line and 8 percent on selected
Dell Latitude notebook PCs.

As with its recent network server price reduction, today's announcement
comes as a result of Dell's efficient direct business model. Dell, the
world's leading direct marketer of computer systems, said it is able to
pass along to customers the savings from reductions in system component
costs quickly because it maintains very low inventories.

"We have seen significant reductions in the cost of components recently,
which have put a spotlight on how quickly Dell can pass these savings on
to our customers," said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of Dell Computer.
"With our announcements this week, our products are among the lowest
priced high-quality systems on the market. Because we maintain low
component inventories, Dell has consistently passed along cost savings in
the form of lower prices and we are again leading the industry with
today's announcement."

"When the cost of components such as memory chips or processors drops
rapidly, a company that maintains about 30 days of inventory is able to
quickly pass along those savings in the form of lower prices by the end of
the month," Mr. Dell continued. "Companies using indirect distribution
partners such as PC dealers often carry 90 to 120 days of product in their
inventory and distribution pipeline. As a result, they are often unable to
pass along similar component cost reductions for weeks or even months
after we reduce our prices, putting them at a competitive disadvantage."

The Dell OptiPlex systems reduced today are designed for corporate,
government and education customers looking for high quality systems that
can be easily connected to large, complex networks. Because of Dell's
close working relationship with Microsoft and the company's extensive
operating system and network environment testing, the OptiPlex desktop
line is ideally suited for corporate and government customers preparing to
transition to Microsoft Windows NT.

Dell was among the first companies in the industry to factory install
Windows NT and the company is well-positioned to help customers transition
to the latest versions of the operating system.
