DataTrax Debuts Foreseer for Windows 95

FORESEER for Win 95 client/server software provides proactive management of
multi-vendor mission critical equipment

CHICAGO, IL., MAY 10, 1996 -- DataTrax Systems Corporation, the pioneer in
monitoring technology systems for critical sites and a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Exide Electronics Group Inc., today introduced FORESEER, a
Windows 95-based client/server application for proactive management of
mission critical foundation equipment to maximize systems availability.
Regardless of manufacturer, FORESEER can monitor all foundation equipment,
managing such diverse devices as uninterruptible power supplies,
batteries, intrusion alarms, fire detectors, air conditioners and diesel
generators. Wherever up-to-the moment, precise monitoring of operating
equipment is critical, such as in data centers, telecommunications and
financial services industries, FORESEER provides easily configurable
software tools to proactively predict and prevent system failure.

FORESEER is the first native Win 95 application for managing and monitoring
foundation equipment. FORESEER for Win 95 is unique in this field of
critical site monitoring, where most software is designed for Windows 3.1
or is proprietary and cannot take full advantage of the open Windows 95
environment. In contrast, FORESEER'S modular object-oriented drag-and-drop
interface provides the flexibility and intuitive usability that users have
come to expect with Win 95 products. Unlike these other products which may
require a dedicated workstation, FORESEER can run on any PC that is
operating under Win 95. That means that users can run FORESEER in the
background while working in other Win 95 applications. FORESEER is also
the first true client/server foundation monitoring software, installed
network-ready to provide multiple users simultaneous access to live data.
Distributed worldwide users can access FORESEER over networks, modems, T1,
or virtually any ethernet or serial connection.

FORESEER'S unique interface capability and unparalleled performance
analysis tools deliver the information users need to identify dangerous
trends, execute corrective action and prevent failures. This ability to
predict and prevent failures allows users to manage foundation systems
proactively instead of reactively. In practical terms, this means that
users can determine the specific cause of an event or identify dangerous
trends, then take corrective action before a failure occurs.

The FORESEER client provides easy access to the high volume of data
monitored and stored in the DataTrax server, allowing users to customize
their own views to choose exactly what data they would like to see at any
given moment in any designated configuration. While users can start with a
base configuration of the familiar Win 95 interface, views can then be
customized to reflect a site's unique environment.

Not only can users choose what data they wish to view onscreen, they can
also configure FORESEER graphically, to depict entire data centers,
buildings, floors, and even specific pieces of equipment. For example, a
data center manager could create a graphical view that would show on the
highest level a map of all North American operations, then double-click to
zoom in on a 3-D view of the New York building, double click again to see
the fifth floor of that building, and zoom-in to examine the pump on an
air conditioner or the batteries that support the UPS. Users can import
their own bitmap images of buildings, equipment, etc. to customize the
interface using the provided drag-and-drop templates, or DataTrax can
provide customized graphical images including 3-D renderings, floor plans,
maps, digitized photos, etc. for a nominal additional fee.

When users have configured FORESEER to reflect their own unique
environment, they can then access data in real time, constantly monitoring
up to 10,000 different equipment point readings. Monitored points are each
assigned a stoplight color scheme of green, yellow and red. Green
indicates a normal condition, yellow indicates a warning-level alarm and
red indicates a critical alarm. Monitored points can be assigned four
alarm thresholds with a specified instruction for each condition, and a
pre-determined escalation procedure.

FORESEER can also ensure that the right personnel are automatically
notified of alarms and potential problems with alpha-numeric OutCall
Paging. Remote sites are effectively protected with Remote Status
Facility, a unique watch-dog feature that confirms the status of remote
sites, even when no alarm conditions exist.

The FORESEER client is available immediately starting at a price of $3,995
for a single FORESEER license. Total costs depend on the number of sites
and configuration.
