COMPUTERVISION RECEIVES PATENT FOR CADDS 5 WIRE HARNESS SOFTWARE

3D HARNESS LAYOUT SOFTWARE KEY TO WIRE HARNESS MANUFACTURING

BEDFORD, MASS., MAY 16, 1996 -- Computervision Corporation announced today
it has received a United States patent for key technology in the company's
CADDS 5 Harness Layout software product.

The patent received by Computervision -- U.S. Patent number 5,506, 950 --
applies to the transformation algorithms that convert computer-generated,
three-dimensional wire harness models to two-dimensional representations
used to create the wire harness manufacturing formboard. This promotes
design integrity and manufacturability by preserving critical wire bends
and twists identified within the digital product model.

Turning 3D models into 2D representations is critical to ensuring that the
wire harness is manufactured to the correct specifications. "The
transformation algorithms represent key technology because they facilitate
collaboration between engineering and manufacturing as well as supplier
chain integration in large organizations. Both are key aspects of
implementing Electronic Product Definition," said Salahuddin Khan, vice
president of product development at Computervision.

CADDS 5 is a key building block of the company's Electronic Product
Definition (EPD) strategy. EPD is a proven approach to developing,
delivering, and maintaining products throughout the entire product life
cycle. Electronic Product Definition allows every part of an organization
-- design, development, manufacturing, and support -- to work in an
optimized collaborative environment.
