Cirrus Logic Moves into Network Computer Market

Company Executes Next Phase of Broad-Range Internet Appliance Strategy

FREMONT, CALIF. -- MAY 20, 1996 -- As part of its ongoing strategy to bring
products and technologies to the Internet appliance market, Cirrus Logic
Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) today announced it is providing the compute engine for
the Network Computer, which was formally launched today by Oracle
Corporation and a consortium of technology leaders and system suppliers.
With its broad range of multimedia and communications technologies, Cirrus
Logic sees Internet appliances as a significant opportunity beyond its
traditional PC markets.

"Internet appliances will require many of the same core technologies that
Cirrus Logic currently provides to the world's leading PC manufacturers,"
said George Alexy, senior vice president of marketing at Cirrus Logic.
"Expanding into the Internet appliance market with our multimedia,
communications and ARM-based Internet compute engine offerings is a
natural progression for our company and one that we will aggressively
pursue as the market develops."

Cirrus Logic is already active in the emerging Internet appliance market as
a supplier of software-rich chip solutions for interactive products, such
as the recently announced Diba Idea platform and a number of PDAs,
hand-held network devices and wireless telephony products with Internet
data capabilities.

According to Michael L. Hackworth, Cirrus Logic's president and CEO, "We
intend to expand our activities beyond the PC market to 40 percent of our
revenues over the next several years. We see the opportunity for the
Internet appliance market to play a key role in helping us achieve this
goal."

"Over the next five years, IDC forecasts that the market for non-PC
Internet-access devices (IADs) will undergo significant growth, expanding
from a negligible base in 1996 to more than 20 percent of the total
worldwide IAD market by the year 2000," said Steve Tirone, research
analyst, Personal Systems, International Data Corporation, Framingham, MA.
"We expect that vendors will offer a wide variety of devices with a broad
range of possible functionalities and that no single IAD will emerge as
the predominant device of choice."

Cirrus Logic currently offers a broad range of products and technologies
that directly apply to the Internet appliance market. These include
connectivity solutions for fax/data/voice modem, LAN, infrared, and both
cellular and PCS wireless; as well as multimedia capabilities encompassing
high-quality video/graphics for display on both CRTs and standard TV
monitors, MPEG, CD-quality audio, and CD-ROM storage. Combining this
portfolio with the compute engine announced today positions Cirrus Logic
to supply a significant portion of the semiconductor content for Internet
appliances, not only with its current offerings, but with future chip
solutions as well.

Headquartered in Fremont, Calif., Cirrus Logic is a leading manufacturer of
advanced integrated circuits that perform multimedia, communications and
mass storage functions. Having captured strong market positions in key
sectors of the desktop and portable PC markets, the company is now
extending its core technologies beyond the PC to innovate software-rich
chip solutions for the Interactive Age.
