Compaq Announces PC-Based Video Conferencing Platforms

COMPAQ AND INTEL TESTED AND APPROVED CONFIGURATIONS ALLOW CUSTOMERS TO
EASILY DEPLOY COMPREHENSIVE AND HIGHLY INTEGRATED SOLUTION

HOUSTON, TX, April 30, 1996 - Continuing to set the pace for delivering
products with the latest in innovation and technology, Compaq today
announced a desktop conferencing solution for the business environment.
Comprised of selected powerful Compaq Pentium-processor based Deskpro XL
and Deskpro models, and the latest conferencing technology from Intel --
the ProShare Video System 200 -- these PC-based conferencing platforms
have been tested and approved by Compaq and Intel, and will be available
starting mid-May through participating Compaq authorized resellers in the
U.S.

Compaq and Intel worked together to develop, test and approve a platform
based on today's off-the-shelf products that provides a highly integrated,
standards-based desktop conferencing solution, enabling customers to
seamlessly deploy this innovative and emerging technology. In the past,
customers requiring desktop video conferencing had to purchase the
hardware and software separately, integrate the components, specify and
configure the necessary networks and/or network services, and finally
assemble the entire solution. Focused on eliminating many of the problems
typically associated with deploying this technology, Compaq and Intel will
provide detailed specifications on configuring and installing the bundle.
In addition, select customer support representatives from Compaq and Intel
have completed extensive cross training and are highly qualified to
provide technical support on the Compaq/Intel platform.

The Deskpro/ProShare combination is the first initiative to be introduced
since Compaq and Intel entered into a strategic alliance last year to
co-market integrated desktop conferencing products. Complying with
international telecommunication standards and industry-standard operating
systems, the powerful combination of Compaq's powerful desktop PCs -- the
Compaq Deskpro XL 5133 or the Compaq Deskpro 5166 -- and real-time,
innovative ProShare, will enable breakthrough multimedia collaborative
computing.

"We believe integrated desktop conferencing is one of today's most exciting
emerging technologies, helping to revolutionize the way business customers
work by transforming the PC into a true multimedia collaborative system
that will support all the customer's needs for application sharing, video
conferencing and information access," said John T. Rose, senior vice
president and general manager, Compaq Commercial Desktop Division. "This
announcement represents a significant first step toward providing
customers with fully integrated technology."

"Desktop video conferencing will enable customers in different locations to
hear and see each other while working on the same documents at the same
time," added Rose. "Individuals can make long distance presentations and
exchange ideas and information without leaving their offices, as well as
send and receive high resolution snapshots of any camera image. This
technology will save companies significant time and money on travel,
reduce cycle time associated with creating documents and approval cycles,
and enhance the quality of communication by enabling real time visual
interaction, regardless of distances between team members."

"The Intel ProShare Video System is the price/performance leader in desktop
video conferencing, providing a full suite of data collaboration features,
full motion video, and conferencing over ISDN lines," said Jim B. Johnson,
vice president and director of marketing, Internet and Communications
Group, Intel Corporation. "Because Compaq is the world's largest supplier
of personal computers, this announcement signifies that desktop video
conferencing is ready for extended deployment. Both companies understand
the requirements of this technology and are committed to delivering the
right standards-based solutions for today's business environment."

Bob Leader, Manager of Remote Services, SAP Corporation said, "We believe
that desktop video conferencing could provide SAP with significant returns
on our investment. Not only will this technology save our customers' time
and money, but it will also augment SAP's effectiveness in supporting our
growing customer base in a responsive manner. We have been looking for an
integrated SKU, offering consistent configurations and wide availability.
We believe Compaq and Intel can offer that."
