Caere Continues to Provide HTML Output Capability In OmniPage Pro for
Internet and Intranet Publishing

OmniPage Pro for Macintosh Represents the Premiere Solution for Easily and
Accurately Converting Paper Directly to HTML text; HTML Output Capability
Announced in OmniPage Pro for Windows 95

LOS GATOS, Calif. - April 29, 1996 - Caere Corporation (NASDAQ:CAER), the
worldwide leader in optical character recognition (OCR) software, today
announced hypertext markup language (HTML) output capability in OmniPage
Pro for Windows 95 Version 7.0. The ability to output HTML directly from
within an OCR application was pioneered by Caere with OmniPage Pro 6.0 for
Macintosh that debuted and shipped at MACWORLD Expo in January. The same
HTML output capability is, today, announced in OmniPage Pro for Windows 95
Version 7.0, the market leading OCR solution. Designed to provide a
jump-start to web page creation, OmniPage Pro's HTML output can be edited
in any HTML editor, including Microsoft's Internet Assistant and
SoftQuad's HoTMetaL for more advanced formatting.

"With HTML output capabilities, OmniPage Pro gives users another time
saving reason for using OCR," said Kristy Holch, a leading analyst of the
scanning and image capture market and Principal of InfoTrends, an analyst
firm in Plymouth, MA. "Not only does OmniPage Pro accurately convert
paper-based information into electronic text, but offers users the
capability to directly output text to HTML for a real jump-start on Web
page creation."

Used in conjunction with a scanning device, OCR is the process which
converts paper documents into an electronic text that can then be edited
in word processors or other text-based applications and eliminates the
need to retype information. OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 and OmniPage Pro
6.0 for Macintosh provide highly accurate conversion of paper-based
information to computer editable text, including HTML that can be used for
internet or intranet publishing. A complete list of new and enhanced
features in OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 was announced today in a separate
release.

By converting OCRd text directly into HTML, OmniPage Pro provides a
jump-start to creating Web-ready pages by automatically adding basic HTML
formatting codes to the OCRd text. The HTML output can be edited in the
user's HTML editor of choice, including Microsoft Internet Assistant and
SoftQuad HoTMetaL Lite, both available free of charge from their
respective developers.
