use in word processing and other text-based applications. A native Windows
95 based application, Version 7.0 provides unprecedented OCR ease of use
features and includes an extensive set of new Windows 95-specific
capabilities. OmniPage Pro also includes other new capabilities that add
to the product's robust feature set. OmniPage Pro leads the industry with
OCR accuracy and innovative features like OCR Wizards, OLE 'in-place
editing,' and unattended schedule OCR.

$129 and a non-upgrade version for $499. The $129 retail upgrade product
is available to owners of any Caere OCR product (including all versions of
OmniPage or WordScan purchased by itself or received bundled with most
flatbed and edge-fed scanners, including the Hewlett-Packard ScanJet
series. The $129 retail upgrade is available at major resellers including
Egghead, CompUSA, Computer City, Best Buy, and OfficeMax.

Version 7.0 Raises the Bar for OCR Usability

With a major focus on usability, Caere has included innovative features to
make OCR extremely easy. Version 7.0 includes an enhanced AutoOCR Toolbar,
the industry's first OCR Wizard, Microsoft Office compatibility, and other
key features that raise the bar for OCR usability.

"OmniPage Pro has been a major force in driving OCR to mainstream adoption
by providing key enhancements in accuracy and lowering the price of
full-featured OCR for most scanner owners," said Kristy Holch, a leading
analyst of the scanning and image capture market and Principal of
InfoTrends, an analyst firm in Plymouth, MA. "In the most recent version,
Caere is providing major ease-of-use enhancements that make OCR easy to
learn and use for even the less technical, mainstream computer user."

New Usability features include:

* an expanded AutoOCR Toolbat that guides the user through the major steps
of the OCR process including Loading/Scanning, Zoning, Recognizing, and
now Saving. Version 7.0 adds a Save As button to complete the OCR process
and allows the user to easily save output text in a variety of word
processing, spreadsheet, and other text-based formats. The Toolbar also
includes a new "Load from Exchange" option to easily open faxes from the
Exchange Inbox and a new "OCR and Check" option that automatically
launches the "Check Recognition" feature to verify the output text
immediately after recognition is complete. The Toolbar offers the
flexibility to control sophisticated OCR settings easily while providing
one-button automatic processing of image documents.

* the OCR Wizard that interactively guides the user through the entire OCR
process. The OCR Wizard asks the user simple questions and performs OCR
based on the answers. OmniPage Pro also includes the Installation Wizard
that assists the user in the installation of the software and scanning
peripherals.

* Microsoft Office Compatibility, which makes OmniPage Pro immediately
familiar to users of Microsoft Office by providing similar menu
structures, toolbar icons, dialog boxes, and commands as Microsoft Office.
Users benefit from a consistent look and feel of the programs with which
they are already familiar.

* Thumbnail Representations of document images open in OmniPage Pro. The
thumbnail views increase the manageability of multipage OCR jobs.

* Advanced Windows 95 Help including Hover Help, ToolTips, and Tip of the
Day.

OmniPage Pro Takes Full Advantage of Windows 95

A native Windows 95 based application, OmniPage Pro goes beyond basic
Windows 95 based conventions like; long file names, floating toolbars, and
tabbed dialog boxes, and provides sophisticated features that allow the
user to take full advantage of the capabilities available in Windows 95.

"OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 includes sophisticated Windows 95 features
like integration into the Exchange Inbox and OLE in-place editing,
allowing users to take greater advantage of Windows 95," said Chad
Kinzelberg, vice president of marketing. OmniPage Pro provides Windows
95-specific features that users expect from the OCR market leader.

New Windows 95-specific features include:

* Designed for Windows 95. OmniPage Pro is a native Windows 95 based
application and provides both a 32-bit bit OCR engine and application
interface.

* OCR Aware (previously Direct Input) that allows OmniPage Pro to be
accessed directly from within native Windows 95 text-based applications,
including Word 7.0. OmniPage Pro adds an "OCR Aware" option to the File
menu of most text-based applications for easy access of OCR capabilities.

* Seamless Integration with Microsoft Exchange that enables users to easily
convert received faxes in the Microsoft Exchange Inbox into editable text.
OmniPage Pro replaces the Microsoft Exchange Fax Viewer and offers the
basic rotate, zoom, print, and save capabilities of the Fax Viewer.
OmniPage Pro adds functionality beyond these basic capabilities by
converting faxes into editable text. Users can double-click on a fax file
in the Microsoft Exchange Inbox or load Microsoft Exchange faxes directly
in OmniPage Pro for automatic conversion to text.

* OLE Support for both 'in-place' editing and automation. With 'in-place'
editing, OmniPage Pro acts as an OLE client. Users can work with graphics
in recognized documents using an image editor that supports OLE.
Automation allows the user to easily drag a page onto any text-based
application that is an OLE drop target for automatic conversion to text.
Users can also drag document images into OmniPage Pro for processing.

* Property Sheet Support that allows the user to 'right click' on any image
on the Desktop or in Explorer to convert that image to text with the click
of a button. Using Windows shell extensions, OmniPage Pro adds a "Convert
To..." option to the image file's right click context sensitive menus.

* Basic Windows 95 Conventions including support for long files names,
pre-emptive multitasking, tabbed dialog boxes, floating toolbars, and
Uninstall.

Version 7.0 Includes Additional New Features

OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 also includes new capabilities that add to the
product's robust feature set. Version 7.0 allows the user to work with
graphics using most major image-editing applications and also provides
hypertext markup language (HTML), output capabilities, enhancements to
Caere's True Page technology, and new Schedule OCR.

New features include:

* Image Editor Integration that enables the user to use most popular
Windows based image editors to manipulate graphics in a scanned document.
Simply double-clicking on a graphic in a scanned document accesses most of
the popular Windows based image editors including Adobe PhotoShop,
CorelDRAW/PhotoPaint, Micrografx Picture Publisher, and Microsoft Paint.
OmniPage Pro will use OLE 2.0 integration with OLE-compliant image
editors. Otherwise, OmniPage Pro will launch the appropriate application
and update the image upon closing.

* HTML Output Capability that facilitates the creation of Web pages and
provides basic HTML formatting like bold, underline, and italic. Caere's
OmniPage Pro 6.0 for Macintosh (shipped January 1996), was the first
software application to convert paper based information directly in HTML.

* Improved Editability in True Page, a page-format retention technology
pioneered by Caere, that maintains text and graphics in their original
page layout. Version 7.0 improves the editability of output text with a
Remove Frames on Export option that reduces the number of "frames" when
the output text is placed into major word processing applications. Users
will benefit from text in freeflowing columns.

* Schedule OCR that allows the user to schedule a time to automatically OCR
documents. The user identifies document images on the hard drive or
documents on the scanner and schedules a convenient time for processing.
At the appropriate time, OmniPage Pro will load identified images or scan
documents and then automatically zone, OCR, and save output text to a
selected destination.

OmniPage Pro for Windows 95 Version 7.0 requires Microsoft Windows, a
minimum of 15 MB free hard disk space, 8 MB RAM, a 386-based or higher PC,
