LUND SWEDEN - MAY 15, 1996 -- AXIS COMMUNICATIONS SETS STANDARD TO SECOND
GENERATION CD-ROM SERVERS

THE FIRST COMPANY TO RELEASE TRUE MULTI-PROTOCOL SUPPORT, INCLUDING
NLM-FREE NETWARE & ROUTABLE WINDOWS NT

The Axis 850/950 CD-ROM Server is the first of its kind to support true
multi-protocol applications. This enables all users on the network to
share CD information across platforms, simultaneously, and independent of
the file server.

Unlike other solutions this includes NetBIOS over TCP/IP, which allows
CD-ROMs to be shared and routed within a Windows NT environment. Other new
features to the AXIS 850/950 are NetWare 3.1X/NetWare 4 support (NCP over
IPX), improved SMB support, and multi-session.

Plug'n'share

The CD-ROM Servers connects to Ethernet and Token Ring, respectively, and
allows up to seven CD-ROM drives to be daisy-chained off the unit and
attached to a network. Users now have a true multi-protocol, plug-and-play
CD-ROM Server solution that supports cross-platform networking.

The AXIS 850/950 Network CD-Servers can be placed anywhere on a network,
enabling users to have full access to the information on the CD-ROMs
anytime. Advanced security features provide password protection, allows
for definition of the number of authorised users per disc etc. The CD-ROM
Servers can be controlled centrally, but is accessed as easily as a local
drive. Built-in Flash Memory allows for easy upgrades over the network.

Second generation CD-ROM Servers

"With this new line of CD-ROM Servers Axis clearly sets the standard by
releasing the first true, file server independent, multi-protocol
solution, which strengthens our leading position in peripheral server
technology" said Jenny Nilsson, Product Manager at Axis Communications.
"Finally users can benefit from direct access to CD-ROM information,
without being restricted to use limited solutions requiring file server
interaction, NLMs, or any other special software to install or learn, and
get what they always wanted; a painless Plug'n'Share CD-ROM solution,
installed in minutes."

License- and NLM-free

Axis' CD-ROM Servers are file server independent, which allows for straight
peer-to-peer communications between the CD-Server and the user, thereby
avoiding double traffic on a network. Network environments supported are;
NetWare, Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, OS/2, MS/DOS and
UNIX. No other CD-ROM Server manufacturer has such a comprehensive OS
support, for simultaneous access on the network.

Unlike competing products Axis 850/950 requires no licenses or NLMs to run
NetWare or Windows NT, as the CD-ROM Server emulates a file server instead
of running off a NetWare or Windows NT server.

Performance

A 32-bit RISC processor, developed by Axis, allows data-transfers 2-4 times
that of any equivalent solution on the market.

Standards

Another feature to the AXIS 850/950 is the support of multiple standards
including High Sierra, ISO 9660 and multisession. The added multi-session
support allows the CD-Server to read CD disks for both CD-ROM and
CD-Recordable devices.

Key features include:

* Multi-protocol support (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows for
  Workgroups, NetWare 3.1X, NetWare 4, UNIX, OS/2)
* Quick and easy installation -- no software or drivers are required
* File server independent, NLM-free
* High-speed 32-bit ETRAX RISC processor supports the fastest
  CD drives
* Supports both towers and 6X jukeboxes
* Easy management, monitoring and configuration using existing tools
* Ability to daisy-chain up to seven drives per unit
* Pop-up/browsing in Win95 Explorer
* Ethernet or Token Ring
* Upgrade Information: Users with version 2.0 can download the
  software, for free, from Axis' Web-site or call a local Axis
  re-seller.

Availability:

The 2.10 versions of Axis 850/950 CD-ROM Servers are available from June
