Disney Online selects AT&T as host for Disney.com web site

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- AT&T today announced that it is the web hosting
provider for the recently launched Disney Web site, Disney.com.

AT&T applied its leading-edge technology, software, hardware and network
engineering in deploying the server and network configuration for
Disney.com. During the first week of operation, the AT&T servers handled
an unprecedented 18.5 million visitors. Since then, the Disney.com site
has received an average of two million hits each day.

Disney.com is the one "cyber-place" for all things Disney. Graphically rich
and filled with games, puzzles, stories and downloads, Disney.com is an
engaging family-friendly site on the Web. It is also the one place where
Disney fans of all ages can experience the full breadth of Disney's
offerings, which include movies, television, publishing, music, retail
stores and, of course, the famous Disney theme parks.

In developing a Web server and network system with massive capacity and
storage capability, AT&T EasyCommerce- Services had to ensure that the
site would accommodate millions of hits each day with unimpeded operation.
Redundancy was built in at every level -- site, staging, network, backbone
-- for the highest reliability. Leading-edge software and state-of-the-art
technology were applied for the site's interactive multimedia
requirements, including the use of several of the highest-capacity
servers.

"We are very pleased with AT&T's responsiveness and with the reliability of
the Web hosting platform that they have deployed for Disney," said Jake
Winebaum, president of Disney Online. "The number of guests accessing the
Disney.com site is far higher than anticipated, and the servers have
handled the loads comfortably."

Reliability and 24-hour/7-day service and support are critical to the
success of businesses on the Internet. To ensure reliability, AT&T built a
high-speed connection from the AT&T backbone to the Internet for
unparalleled uptime performance as well as a redundant backbone to ensure
high network reliability.

Other AT&T innovations in support of Disney.com are:

* bandwidth on demand that allows millions of hits on the Disney
  site each day;
* redundant Web servers for continuous availability of content;
* firewall security;
* domain name servers outside the firewalls to facilitate user
  access; and
* a set of facilities tools to manage and monitor the running of
  the hosting platform.

"Customers, like Disney, require state-of-the-art performance and
reliability, and AT&T EasyCommerce Services moved quickly to meet these
needs," said Kathleen Earley, vice president of AT&T EasyCommerce
Services. "The Disney.com server facility is on one of the most robust Web
hosting platforms on the Internet and introduces the world of all things
Disney in an exciting new way."

Disney.com is the first in a series of family online products from Disney
Online, a Disney Interactive division founded in September 1995.

Disney.com is hosted at a state-of-the-art AT&T data center in Virginia.
The facility focuses on emerging customer applications requiring higher
degrees of reliability, availability and scalability. The site is equipped
with the latest comprehensive network analysis and performance tools and
is designed with fault tolerance that provides continuous customer
service.
