Apple Announces Highest Performance Macintosh Performa for Home Users;
Targets Game Enthusiasts

CUPERTINO, California--May 28, 1996--Apple Computer, Inc. today announced
the latest and highest performance member of its award-winning line of
home computers, the Apple Macintosh Performa 6320CD. The Performa 6320CD
sports a 120Mhz 603e PowerPC microprocessor, 16MB of RAM, a 1.2 gigabyte
hard drive, and a host of other built-in features such as the AppleCD 600i
4-speed CD-ROM drive, 28.8 internal modem for speedy email and Internet
connections, and answering machine capabilities. It also includes an
integrated TV/video system, which allows users to connect to external
video sources and capture images as well as view television programming
with the aid of a TV antenna. Stereo 16-bit sound provides high-quality
audio playback, while an audio-input port lets users record their own
sounds.

"The Performa 6320CD is designed with the sophisticated home user in mind,"
said Didier Diaz, director of product marketing for Apple's Performa line.
"These customers typically have children running multimedia-rich education
and entertainment titles and they may work out of their home, or bring
work home, and thus have demanding productivity and communications needs.
They want their computer to be powerful, versatile, and provide lasting
value. The 6320CD is ideal."

Apple ships all members of its Performa line with a collection of
first-rate software. (In the March 11, 1996 issue of Business Week,
technology columnist Stephen Wildstrom called software bundled with the
Macintosh "consistently good".) The Performa 6320CD includes the core set
(titles such as ClarisWorks, Quicken Special Edition, At Ease, The
American Heritage Dictionary, ClickArt Performa Collection, Groliers
Multimedia Encyclopedia, and more-a total of 16 pre-installed software
titles and 15 CD-ROM titles). This software bundle includes five leading
entertainment titles-Descent from MacPlay, Hollywood from Theatrix
Interactive, Buried in Time from Sanctuary Woods, Allied General from
Strategic Simulations, and F/A-18 from Graphic Simulations.

"Most people won't readily admit it, but they spend a whole lot of time
playing games on their home computer," said Yves Martin, manager of home
entertainment for Apple. "This system gives people the productivity,
educational, and reference software they 'must have', but also appeals to
their playful side with a terrific new selection of award-winning games.
What's more, on this high-end hardware, novices and sophisticated gamers
alike will be quite pleased with the performance and responsiveness of all
their titles."

The Performa 6320CD is a complete, ready-to-use multimedia system with a
U.S. Apple price of $2,599. This includes the computer (with Apple System
7.5.3 software already loaded), 15-inch color display (13.3 inches
diagonal viewable image size), keyboard, mouse, internal modem,
microphone, and all the necessary cables and software to get up and
running. This will be the first Performa system to ship with a trial
version (15 free hours) of America Online (AOL), replacing Apple's eWorld
service. With AOL, users can access World Wide Web sites, get email via
the Internet, receive news and information, and participate in online
activities provided by America Online.

The Performa 6320CD carries Apple's standard one-year limited hardware
warranty and 90-day toll-free telephone software support. Apple recently
received top marks for reliability and service from PC World magazine.
Specifically, PC World readers gave Apple's customer support staff the
highest possible ratings in technical knowledge, courtesy, and follow-up.
The company also received "best" ratings in the survey's three product
reliability categories.

Apple is also the recipient of the International Benchmarking
Clearinghouse's recognition of Best Practices Award for the Apple
Assistance Center; the top ranking for quality and reliability from the
Home PC magazine survey published in November 1995; and the best overall
ranking in J.D. Power and Associates' 1995 Desktop Personal Computer End
User Satisfaction study.
