First Products Based on Apple's Pippin Technology Unveiled in U.S.

Bandai Digital Entertainment to Launch Affordable Pippin-Based @World at E3
Conference

LOS ANGELES, California--May 16,1996--Apple Computer, Inc. today announced
that Bandai Digital Entertainment, the first Pippin licensee, has made
public their U.S. plans for its Pippin-based multimedia and Internet
information appliance. Bandai Digital Entertainment, the U.S. subsidiary
of Bandai Co. Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan--which brought the world Power
Rangers--today announced their @World Pippin-based product for the U.S.
market. Bandai's @World product is priced at U.S. $599, and is scheduled
to be available in the U.S. in September 1996.

"With the Pippin architecture, Apple leads the world in developing the
first low-cost Internet and multimedia information appliance and enables
us to recast the television set as an entry point to the Information
Highway," said Satjiv Chahil, Apple's senior vice president of corporate
marketing. "Pippin has unleashed a huge market opportunity and Bandai is
the first to take advantage of it. Pippin products are aimed at offering
millions of TV set owners exciting, easy-to-use multimedia and Internet
capabilities never before available."

"We feel that Bandai's @World will be a perfect fit for the U.S. market due
largely to the enthusiasm that U.S. consumers have shown towards the
Internet and the World Wide Web," said Makoto Yamashina, president and
executive officer of Bandai Co. Ltd. "The @World Pippin-based product
offers families access to the world in their family room."

Apple has designed Pippin from the ground up to bring Apple's unparalleled
ease-of-use to a wide range of information solutions across many different
markets. Pippin-based products will inherit Macintosh's ability to easily
manage rich multimedia content--whether online or CD-ROM based--while
providing the simplicity and affordability of today's consumer devices.

Because the Pippin platform is based on the robust PowerPC RISC
microprocessor, it enters the market already supported by a wealth of
Macintosh development horsepower. Much of the system software code,
integrated cells and integrated circuits come from the Macintosh. Apple
expects the exceptional power of the PowerPC microprocessor to accommodate
future generations of interactive CD-ROM titles and Internet browsing.
There are thousands of titles developed for Macintosh which are easily
adaptable to run in the Pippin environment. In addition, any Pippin title
can play on the Macintosh platform.

"We believe that the Pippin platform will support a wide variety of
multimedia titles that deliver easy-to-operate family entertainment and
education at a lower price than today's existing products," Chahil said.
"This is a low-cost architecture that takes advantage of the most exciting
qualities of the Macintosh and the Internet."
