Developer Community Embraces Newton Internet Enabler

Third-Party Developers Turn to Newton Platform to Provide Mobile Internet
and Intranet Connectivity Solutions

WWDC, SAN JOSE, California--May 13, 1996--A significant number of
third-party developers have announced plans to integrate the Newton
Internet Enabler into current and future releases of their products. With
its powerful new suite of Internet connectivity tools, developers are
looking to the Newton platform to provide their customers with
sophisticated hand-held mobile Internet and intranet solutions.

To date, plans to integrate the Newton Internet Enabler have been announced
by over 50 independent and corporate software developers, including
QUALCOMM, Incorporated; AllPen Software; Lunatech Research; Fetch
Software; InfoMed/Point of Care; NetStrategy; PenVision; Tactile Systems
and SRL Data.

"We're very excited about Newton Internet Enabler because we can now
provide solutions that offer desktop-level functionality in the hand-held
environment," said Tracy Crowe, senior product manager for QUALCOMM's
Enterprise Software Technologies Group. "We anticipate huge growth in the
Internet Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) connectivity market and will be
able to meet that demand by integrating Newton Internet Enabler into our
products."

QUALCOMM is the developer of the industry-leading Eudora line of email
products, with an estimated 10 million users worldwide.

"As enterprise communications become increasingly Internet-based, mobile
Internet connectivity becomes crucial. With Newton Internet Enabler,
developers can offer solutions that provide end-users with access to
critical information in very small packages," said Sandy Bennet, acting
vice president of Apple's Newton Systems Group. "Customers can expect to
see a wide array of solutions such as Web browsers, Internet mail clients,
and newsreaders by mid-year."

With Newton Internet Enabler, developers will be able to create email and
Internet solutions which support standard protocols such as MIME, SMTP and
POP3 (email) and HTTP and HTML (Web browsing).

Newton Internet Enabler is currently in beta form and is expected to be
available in final form in June of 1996. The current beta version,
available free of charge to all Newton developers worldwide, may be
obtained electronically by emailing a request to
