and KickStart Components

WWDC, SAN JOSE, California--May 13, 1996--Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced that the newest version of the OpenDoc Software Developer Kit
(SDK) is now available. It features a first look at KickStart viewer
components and the release of the OpenDoc Developer Framework (ODF.) The
SDK is available at no cost for developers to download online via the
OpenDoc Web site (http://opendoc.apple.com) or on a CD-ROM, which can be
ordered from the Web site as well. The CD is an updated collection of
tools, components and documentation needed to develop OpenDoc components.
The CD also contains source code, ensuring open access for developers. The
Web site will continue to provide regular updates.

The SDK Will Include:

* Third-Party Software--showcases the newest components under development
using OpenDoc. It contains a version of ClarisWorks that can embed and use
OpenDoc components, and others that take advantage of Cyberdog.

object-oriented framework for creating OpenDoc and Internet/Cyberdog

be made available to developers and users this year. The five components
include a button, viewers for 2D images, QuickDraw 3D and QuickTime. In
addition, a basic drawing container will be included.

* OpenDoc 1.0.4--several improvements from the original OpenDoc release,
including modifications to installer script and the editor set-up control
