Apple Bolsters Macintosh as Premier Web Site Creation Platform with Broad
Third-Party Tools Support

WWDC, SAN JOSE, California--May 13, 1996--Further establishing the
Macintosh as the platform of choice for users creating and distributing
information over the Internet, Apple Computer, Inc. and industry-leading
developers today showcased new Internet development products to provide
content developers and webmasters with powerful tools for Web site
development.

Companies announcing Macintosh development solutions at Apple's Worldwide
Developers Conference, include Allegiant Technologies, Inc., EveryWare
Development Corporation, Forte, JYACC, Main Event, Maxum Development,
Metrowerks, Inc., Natural Intelligence, Pictorius, Inc., PowerProduction
Software, QKS, Quarterdeck, RadMedia, Smartcode Technologies and Symantec
Corporation.

"These products are a testament to the potential of the Macintosh as a
leading development platform for the Internet," said Larry Tesler, Apple's
vice president of Internet Platforms. "Developers and site-managers now
can choose from a wide variety of software tools to build robust Web sites
on the Macintosh."

Apple's Macintosh systems represent the number one desktop platform for Web
site creation and the number two server platform for distributing Web
information. Web tools announced and showcased for the Mac platform fall
into five strategic areas: Cyberdog/OpenDoc tools, Java/programming tools,
Web authoring tools, Web site tools and client/server application tools.

CYBERDOG/OPENDOC TOOLS With the announcement of Apple's Cyberdog Internet
Suite based on the OpenDoc component architecture, third-party software
vendors launched products that will take advantage of Cyberdog's plug and
play component structure.

JAVA/PROGRAMMING TOOLS

With Apple's recent announcement to license Sun Microsystems' Java
programming language, software tools vendors are quickly bringing to
market the necessary tools to develop Java applications on the Macintosh
platform. Symantec announced the Macintosh version of its popular Cafe
product, a Java visual development environment. Metrowerks, maker of the
Macintosh development tools unveiled Codewarrior for Java and Java Starter
Kit. Metrowerks also will introduce Discover Programming with Java, an
introductory product and companion book for learning Java on the
Macintosh. PowerProduction announced WebBurst, which allows for the
development of Java applets with no programming.

Natural Intelligence and Quarterdeck have today announced a strategic
partnership, the first result being a server-side Java plug-in developed
by Natural Intelligence that conforms to Quarterdeck's new W*API. Earlier
this year, Natural Intelligence announced Roaster and Roaster
Professional, a Macintosh Java-based development environment.

Programmers writing Smalltalk Internet applications on the Macintosh will
get a boost from QKS who today announced Smalltalk Agents support for the
Internet. Smartcode Technologies announced its first-ever developer
toolkits for the Macintosh. These toolkits will contain object-oriented
C++ networking class libraries supporting Internet protocols such as FTP,
SMTP, MIME and HTTP.

WEB AUTHORING TOOLS

Macintosh Web-site developers can add powerful scripting capabilities with
Main Event's new version of Scripter, an AppleScript development
environment. DogPatch, another product announced by Main Event, provides
CGI-scripting control. Allegiant Technologies is shipping Marionet, a
Macintosh Internet scripting kit which allows developers to create custom
applications that access and manage Internet information. Maxum
Development has announced WebLock and showcased other Web-server add-ons
including NetCloak and NetForms. Corporate users accessing the Internet
will gain a new authoring and viewing tool thanks to RadMedia's
announcement of PowerMedia for Macintosh. Powermedia is a visual authoring
software package for Web-based communications.

CLIENT/SERVER APPLICATIONS TOOLS

With the rise of the Internet, vendors are realizing the need for
connectivity for client/server applications. Pictorius unveiled Entrada!,
an integrated tools package supporting all major Internet protocols for
development of rich client/server applications. EveryWare Development
Corporation has announced Tango, a rapid application development
environment providing Internet connectivity to Claris Software's FileMaker
Pro databases. EveryWare also announced this year Bolero, a powerful tool
for logging Web server activities into standard databases including Butler
SQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix, FoxPro and others. To enable enterprise
applications with Web connectivity, Forte has released the Forte Web SDK,
an optional extension to its Forte Application Environment for building
high performance client/server applications. JYACC announced JAM/WEB (Web
Enterprise Builder) which allows developers to build server-based database
applications for the Web.
