ADOBE UNVEILS INTERNET-BASED PRINTING SERVICE

ADOBE PRINTMILL SOFTWARE PROVIDES PRINTER ACCESS AND MANAGEMENT SERVICES
THROUGH THE INTERNET

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (May 7, 1996) -- Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:
ADBE) today announced Adobe" PrintMill', the first Internet-based printing
solution. Adobe PrintMill, initially offered to corporate intranet sites,
will allow users to exploit the power of the Internet for printing. In
addition to offering access to over six million installed Adobe PostScript
printers worldwide, PrintMill will allow users to identify, locate, manage
and print to any printer on their network through a World Wide Web (Web)
browser of choice. PrintMill will increase printer access and management
for users, make printing easier with a common printing user interface from
desktop to production printers, and offer enterprises additional return on
printer investments.

Adobe will provide printing solutions for the two defined areas of Internet
printing - printing content from the Internet and using the Internet to
provide access to printers and print services. PrintMill software defines
a new generation of print services, offering access to any printer,
anywhere, anytime via a Web browser interface. PrintMill will offer anyone
who prints the same easy experience printing via the Internet as they
currently experience with common desktop applications. PrintMill will
allow users to print directly from their applications or send a file or
URL directly from the PrintMill browser interface to a printer anywhere on
the global network. Adobe PrintMill will also provide such benefits as
on-line technical support and management services.

PrintMill is the first step in an evolution of Internet-based print
services from Adobe. Adobe will also develop a version of PrintMill that
will extend access outside the enterprise to the public Internet, opening
the world of 100,000+ print shops and service bureaus to anyone with a Web
browser.

"The Internet will dramatically change the role of printers in day-to-day
life," noted Charles Geschke, President, Adobe Systems. "We are redefining
printing with new products such as Adobe PrintMill that offer
unprecedented printing capabilities through the Internet. We are also
working with leading browser companies to help make Internet printing an
easier experience. Adobe believes PrintMill will become the Internet
printing standard, just as we accomplished with Adobe PostScript, the
worldwide imaging language standard. PrintMill is a critical piece of
Adobe's overall Internet applications tool set that makes Web publishing
as easy as print publishing."

"Netscape recognizes that open, cross-platform printing is a capability our
customers need," said Mike Homer, senior vice president of marketing at
Netscape Communications Corporation. "Netscape and Adobe plan to work
together closely to enable Adobe PrintMill to take advantage of Netscape's
Server Plug-in API and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
compliant directories to optimize printing performance and flexibility.
Together, the two companies intend to make Internet printing widely
accessible via Netscape Navigator."

Adobe PrintMill exploits the power of the Internet by providing users and
printer managers with an easy-to-use Web browser interface that offers
unique printing capabilities, independent of computer platform, network or
geographical location. Using PrintMill software installed on an existing
Web server, users will print through a Web browser, often referred to as
an Internet client, such as Netscape Navigator. With a common user
interface, users will have access through a Web- based printer directory
to the rich features built into any printer in a corporate enterprise. In
addition, PrintMill will allow for printer management capabilities, which
include security access to designated printers. Adobe PrintMill will be
integrated with existing applications, ensuring that printers found via
the Web using PrintMill can be used with any software application.

PrintMill will redefine how people print in today's enterprise. Users will
be able to locate printers by attribute, physical location or network
without ever leaving their Web browser. With PrintMill, common printing
challenges such as installing printers, finding new printers on a network,
locating specialty printers, and switching printers in a crisis situation
become easy tasks. Enterprises with installed intranets will become
empowered to utilize printer resources at hand, instead of resorting to
fax machines, copiers and overnight courier services. With Adobe
PrintMill, users will be able to print through the intranet to enterprise
printers down the hall, across the street or across the world.

Specific details on Adobe PrintMill pricing and availability will be
announced at a later date.

Adobe offers a total printing solution with Adobe PrintGear for the small
office/home office (SOHO) market, Adobe PostScript as the standard from
corporate desktop printers to high-end publishing printers, and a new
architecture, code named "Supra," that incorporates both Adobe PostScript
and Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) for production printers. Adobe
also works with leading software vendors and printer manufacturers to
provide Adobe printer drivers. Adobe printing technologies provide
quality, compatibility, price performance and choice for anyone who
prints.
