Industry-Standard Relational Databases Now Supported by TSI's Mercator

Tool Provides Seamless Environment for Mapping To and From SQL Databases

Wilton, CT -- April 8, 1996 Graphical data mapping support for ODBC and
native Oracle databases was announced today by TSI International, a
leading provider of data transformation software. Relational databases can
now be both data sources and destinations when using Mercator, TSI's
any-to-any mapping tool. This extends Mercator's drag-and-drop data
transformation capability to applications where direct connectivity is
required between SQL databases and other data formats.

Data can now be mapped directly to and from SQL databases, files, and
messages using Mercator's graphical toolset. There is no need for
intermediate files, separate job steps, or separate programs. Mapping
rules are specified by dragging graphical objects from sources and
dropping them onto destinations. No programming is required. This reduces
the skill level required to access relational databases and include them
in mappings.

Facilities are provided to automatically generate graphical descriptions of
SQL queries and tables. Existing queries can be used without modification.
Mapping inputs can include any SQL query statements supported by the
database manager. Mapping outputs can include any table defined in the
database. All database access is performed within the Mercator
environment, providing interconnections that are seamless and highly
efficient.

"The ability to map data directly to or from a database without going
through intermediate files extends Mercator's range to a whole new set of
applications," noted Bob Bouton, TSI vice president of marketing. "For
example, data can be mapped from one database to another entirely through
drag and drop. Information from multiple databases can be combined to
create an EDI message stream in one step. Data from a Web site can go
directly into a database without writing special programs."

The initial release of Mercator s database connectivity supports all
ODBC-compliant PC databases and native SQL for Personal Oracle7. Future
releases will extend ODBC support to other platforms, including Windows NT
and UNIX, and will provide native SQL support for the more popular
relational databases in these same environments. ODBC connectivity for the
PC environment is priced at less than $2,000.

Mercator is the leading data mapping technology in the market. It is the
only tool that supports any-to-any mapping without writing code, the
mapping of multiple sources and destinations in single process, and
seamless embedding of data transformation within applications.

Mercator is also the only tool that provides portability of maps across PC,
midrange, and mainframe environments. Map execution is supported for over
14 different environments including DOS, Windows, Windows NT, OS/400, VMS,
and MVS, and major UNIX platforms including HP 9000, IBM RS6000, Sun
SPARC, Digital Alpha, and Stratus.
