TEXAS INSTRUMENTS UNVEILS 28.8 CELLULAR DATA/FAX MODEM

Faster Communication for Mobile Executives

DALLAS - April 15, 1996 - Continuing its effort to allow users to customize
their notebook computers, Texas Instruments today added a cellular-ready
data/fax modem to its accessory line of products. Fully compatible with
all TI notebooks, the new TI 28.8 Cellular Data/FAX Modem is two modems in
one allowing mobile executives and field professionals the ability to
quickly and conveniently use their notebook computers from hotel rooms,
airport lounges or from the car to send and receive data when they're
using their cellular phone or from a standard phone line.

The new modem is ideal for remote LAN access, faxing, e-mailing, and other
mobile applications where fast transmission speeds are required. Most
modems operate at 14,400 bits per second (bps), but with a speed of 28,800
bps, the new modem provides improved connectivity performance and reduces
the connect time and cost to our customers.

"The new 28.8 Cellular Data/FAX Modem is a must for mobile executives or
corporate users who need high-speed remote access to a network for e-mail,
file transfers and other applications; even when they are not near a
traditional network connection," said Linda Sanders, director of worldwide
accessories marketing for Texas Instruments, Personal Productivity
Products. "The new modem's speed also makes dial-up inter-networking for
workgroups and remote access to graphics files practical because it lowers
the cost of access time."

The 28.8 Cellular Data/Fax Modem is cellular ready, providing wireless
communications with an optional cellular cable that connects to Motorola,
Nokia and other selected cellular phones. Two modems in one, it provides
the ability to send and receive data at speeds in excess of 14.4 kbps
rapidly, efficiently and reliably over cellular phone networks or at 28.8
kbps on standard telephone lines so users stay connected no matter where
they may need access.

Texas Instruments has included with the new TI 28.8 modem an XJACK
connector, making it easier to access a world of information. Designed for
standard telephone transmission, the XJACK modem provides 14.4 kbps data
transmission with up to 57,600 bps throughput with v.42 and MNP error
correction and V.42 bis and MNP 5 compression. The XJACK connector pops
out of the modem for a direct connect to a standard RJ-11 telephone jack.
The connector simply slips back in place when the user completes
communications.

By providing the most advanced cellular and landline communication
capabilities in a convenient, user-friendly package, the new TI 28.8 modem
enables toady's mobile users to achieve reliable and convenient
communication capabilities. With the most advanced technologies available,
the 28.8 uses little power so it does not affect notebook performance.

Texas Instruments has included the latest software with its cellular modem,
the BitFax Professional 3.11T, and it also has Windows '95 Plug & Play
compatibility. Users can fax directly from any Windows or Windows '95
document or transfer data files with point and click simplicity. The
modem's upgradable firmware allows users to stay current with the latest
drivers. As with all TI products, the 28.8 Cellular Data/Fax Modem is
backed by TI Service and Support.
