Symantec Ships Cafe Java-Compatible Tools for Macintosh

Cafe for Macintosh provides an unmatched feature set for both novice and
professional developers of Java-based technologies

CUPERTINO, CALIF. -- APRIL 22, 1996 -- Close on the heels of Cafe for
Windows, Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced the
availability of Symantec Cafe for Macintosh. Symantec Cafe for Macintosh
is a standalone, professional Java-compatible development environment that
replaces the previously released Symantec Caffeine tools. Symantec Cafe
for Macintosh includes several features not available in any Macintosh
Java-compatible development tools, including a native Java-compatible
compiler that runs several times faster than the standard Sun Java
Compiler, an integrated graphical class browser, tutorials and sample
applets, and the Cafe Studio visual development utility.

"Symantec Cafe is ideal for both first time programmers and experienced
professionals. The 'Intro to Java-based programming' tutorial and sample
applets help you learn the Java language and start quickly creating your
own applets. The fast Java-compatible compiler and integrated graphical
class browser give professional developers the tools they need to do rapid
Java-powered development," said Mansour Safai, general manager of the
Symantec Developer Tools Division.

"Symantec Cafe for Macintosh provides a high-performance development
environment for Internet applications," said Larry Tesler, vice president
of Internet platforms, Apple Computer. "Customers can now leverage the
power and ease of use of the Macintosh to develop Java applets, confirming
the role of the Macintosh as the platform of choice for web site design."
