Symantec Reaffirms Network Administration Leadership

Norton Administrator for Networks Wins Top Honors During NetWorld+Interop

CUPERTINO, CALIF. -- APRIL 12, 1996 -- During NetWorld+Interop, the
industry's premier networked computing conference, Symantec Corporation
(NASDAQ:SYMC) received awards from three of the leading trade publications
read by corporate decision makers: LAN Magazine, Network Computing, and PC
Week. The company's Norton Administrator for Networks (NAN) won LAN
Magazine's Product of the Year for best asset management product. NAN also
received top honors from Network Computing for Best Enterprise Desktop
Product. In addition, PC Week awarded NAN an IT Excellence Award for LAN
administration/application management.

"Norton Administrator for Networks is the number one choice for network
administration at corporate sites. The fact that these leading
publications selected NAN for such prestigious awards confirms the
product's leadership in providing a solution for conducting hardware and
software inventory, software metering and distribution," said Ted Schlein,
vice president of Networking and Client/Server Technology at Symantec.
"NAN has always been a market-leading solution for large, multi-thousand
node network sites. Now Norton Administrator Suite - Essential Edition is
the perfect complement to meet the needs of the network administrator at
single site LANs."

A January, 1996 IDC study shows that the network administration market
continued to grow at a rapid pace in 1995, with worldwide sales of
administration suite products increasing 187% to $215 million. Symantec
holds the number two market share position in this burgeoning market, with
23% of sales in 1995.

LAN MAGAZINE

Norton Administrator for Networks won LAN Magazine's Product of the Year
for asset management. According to the publication, "Norton Administrator
for Networks from Symantec takes a true enterprise approach to asset
management. The product is NOS-independent, it gives network managers the
tools to break down a WAN into manageable sites, and it lets the network
manager limit the product's impact on WAN performance via utilization
limits and other features."

NETWORK COMPUTING

Network Computing lauded NAN as "the complete manager" and honored the
product with its "Well Connected" award in the category of Best Enterprise
Desktop Management. The magazine states that "NAN 2.0 is a complete
desktop and asset management tool that helps IS managers and support staff
regain control of their network and workstations. NAN offers a long list
of impressive features that make it a viable suite for almost any
network."

PC WEEK

Since the publication introduced its current reviews system in 1994, it has
put more than 1,000 products through the demands of corporate testing. PC
Weeks' IT Excellence Awards honor products that PC Week analysts would
recommend had they been running their own company performing in a
consultative role. According to the publication, "Multi-site replication
and administration over a WAN link make Norton Administrator for Networks
one of the few truly enterprise-capable management products on the
market."

Norton Administrator for Networks is a member of the Norton Network Series.
Also announced at Networld+Interop was the Norton Administrator Suite -
Essential Edition which integrates a wide array of features, including
hardware and software inventory, software metering and distribution,
desktop virus protection, desktop configuration management, and remote
control -- essential features that a network administrator finds useful in
the day-to-day management of the network. The Essential Edition is
developed for network administrators of single site LANs. Pricing starts
at $635 for 10 nodes.
