SOFTWARE AG Announces Data Mart Package

Dmart Offers Low Cost, Easy-to-Use, Scalable Data Access Solution for
Business Users

RESTON, Va., April 15, 1996 -- Software AG, one of the world's largest
independent software companies, today at DB/Expo announced Dmart, its
low-cost, data mart package. Dmart bundles ESPERANT, an easy-to-use query
and reporting tool, and ADABAS D, a low-cost, high-powered database, with
consulting and educational services that can deliver a working data mart
within 10 days.

Data marts store data that has been tailored to a specific group of users
or applications on a single database where it can be quickly analyzed,
speeding up the decision making process. Typically, data marts are driven
by business units such as marketing, customer information systems, finance
or sales departments, which require an easily available, consistent and
ready-to-use format for data access.

"With Dmart, departmental users have a data mart package that is available
today to deliver easy data access to solve their business problems," said
Mike Schiff, director of Software AG's Data Management Program. "Unlike
other data mart products, Dmart comes with a services component that
includes data modeling to ensure that the data content will satisfy users'
information requirements. In addition, our services package customizes the
design so that users populate the data mart with the data they need,
enablling them to immediately address their decision support
requirements."

Software AG's ADABAS D provides an ideal database for data marts, as it
offers a high level of functionality at a low cost, and can be
administered and maintained by end-users. Introduced in the US in August
1995, ADABAS D is the only relational database management system (RDMS)
designed with data distribution built-in, not added on. ADABAS D is a
fast, high-performance database, recently achieving record-setting results
in an SAP/DEC Alpha benchmark test. Easy to use, Windows NT, UNIX and OS/2
platforms. Additionally, ADABAS D's ODBC interface makes it open to the
most popular desktop tools, and with its OfficePlus client product, allows
for seamless integration with the Microsoft Office suite of products for
query and reporting, Dmart uses ESPERANT, an award-winning tool featuring
expert technology that allows business users to access data without
learning SQL. ESPERANT displays queries as clear English sentences,
guiding end-users through an intuitive process that transparently joins
data from multiple sources into a single query. SQL Expert, ESPERANT's
powerful, rule-based system, assures query accuracy and protects users
from generating incorrect information. Using ESPERANT's Executive Desktop
function, users can build icons for frequent queries and instant,
point-and-click accessibility.

Dmart is available now. Pricing for a fully-implemented system starts at
$25,000, and includes software and 10-days of on-site consulting, data
modeling and training services. ADABAS D requires a Windows NT, UNIX or
OS/2 server; and ESPERANT requires a 386 (or faster) IBM compatible PC,
MS-DOS 3.3 and Microsoft Windows 3.1.
