Storage Dimensions Unveils Windows NT Server Storage Strategy

NEW HIGH-AVAILABILITY STORAGE SOLUTIONS ADDRESS UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS OF
WINDOWS NT MARKET

MILPITAS, CALIFORNIA (APRIL 2, 1996) -- Storage Dimensions, the leading
independent vendor of high-availability client/server storage systems,
today unveiled its Windows NT server storage strategy designed to address
the unique application and business requirements of NT server
environments. The ambitious strategy will bring to market several new
storage products that address the issues of ease-of-use, manageability,
scalability, and high-availability for NT server storage. Storage
Dimensions backs these new products with the industry's most innovative
customer support programs.

"NT server environments have different storage requirements than the
mainstream NetWare market," said Ted Chen, vice president of marketing for
Storage Dimensions. While NetWare servers have traditionally been
optimized for file and print services, NT servers have been optimized as
an alternative for midrange application servers, database servers, file
servers, and Inter/Intranet Web servers. NT servers tend to be
high-growth, mission-critical servers demanding storage solutions that
provide manageability, scalability, and high-availability."

SUPERFLEX 3000 WITH DGR TO SUPPORT HIGH-GROWTH NT SERVERS EASILY ADD
CAPACITY OR CHANGE RAID LEVELS ON-LINE

The first deliverable in the Storage Dimensions NT server storage strategy
is SuperFlex 3000 with DGR, announced separately today. SuperFlex 3000
with DGR (Dynamic Growth and Reconfiguration) is a new high-availability
RAID storage system for Windows NT featuring dramatically improved
ease-of-use, expandability, and manageability. SuperFlex 3000 with DGR has
two primary characteristics that make it unique among NT RAID storage
offerings. First, a system administrator can quickly and easily add
capacity to SuperFlex 3000 with DGR while the system is in use. Second,
RAID levels can be changed at any time without taking the system
off-line.

Prior to SuperFlex 3000 with DGR, a system administrator had to manage a
time-consuming, difficult process in order to increase the capacity or
change the RAID levels of a RAID storage system. Because this process
could take 10 hours or more, it could easily lead to costly unplanned
downtime during normal business hours. SuperFlex 3000 with DGR solves this
problem by dramatically reducing the time and effort involved in adding
capacity or changing RAID levels. An easy-to-use interface enables system
administrators to manage this process in under five minutes while the
system is on-line and in use.

SUPERFLEX 5000 TO DELIVER RAID STORAGE FOR MISSION-CRITICAL NT SERVERS
OBTAIN HIGHEST AVAILABILITY WITH DUAL REDUNDANT RAID CONTROLLERS

Storage Dimensions will address the high-availability requirements of
applications migrating from centralized mainframe and high-end UNIX
servers to the NT environment with the introduction of SuperFlex 5000, the
first affordable, dual controller RAID storage system for mission-critical
Windows NT servers. SuperFlex 5000, to be announced later this month, also
addresses the capacity requirements of the largest NT servers.

SuperFlex 5000 will be priced 40% less than the leading dual controller
system, Clariion Series 1000, which was designed for traditional high-end
UNIX environments. By introducing SuperFlex 5000, Storage Dimensions will
lower the bar in price versus the traditional high- end storage provider,
while raising the bar in resiliency versus current solutions from
Intel-based server vendors.

SuperFlex 5000 will minimize the risk of a single point of failure in the
storage system by featuring dual redundant controllers. With automatic
failover, if the primary controller fails, the system automatically
switches to the standby controller eliminating any system downtime. The
failed controller is then hot-swappable and can be replaced without
impacting the storage system's operation.

SuperFlex 5000 is scalable to over 600 GB of total storage capacity in a
server with four available SCSI channels. SuperFlex 5500, which will be
announced next month, will effectively double this capacity, thereby
addressing the high-availability requirements of the largest NT servers.

VANTAGEPOINT 2.0 TO SIMPLIFY NT RAID STORAGE MANAGEMENT ENTERPRISEWIDE
CENTRALLY MANAGE DISK STORAGE ACROSS DISTRIBUTED SERVERS

VantagePoint 2.0, being announced later this month, is an enterprise
storage management solution that will allow NT network administrators to
centrally monitor the performance, condition, and configuration of all
disk storage devices attached to Windows NT and NetWare servers. Designed
to meet the needs of the growing NT market, VantagePoint 2.0 will build on
Storage Dimensions' strategy to develop a general purpose storage
management tool that spans not only across platforms, but across
multi-vendor disk drives as well. VantagePoint 2.0 will support: (1) HP
OpenView, the leading high-level network management solution, (2) TCP/IP
network protocol, and (3) any SCSI disk device attached to NT and NetWare
servers.

An easy-to-use graphical user interface enables system administrators to
anticipate and respond to changing disk array storage conditions. For
example, network administrators will be able to quickly identify
performance bottlenecks and isolate conditions that could threaten network
availability. VantagePoint for NT will collect information on disk array
configuration, drive and controller inventory, array status, enclosure
temperature, power supply status, and performance.

PLAN TO SUPPORT DEC ALPHA DEMONSTRATES COMPANY'S COMMITMENT TO NT SUPPORT
PROVIDED TODAY FOR ALL INTEL-BASED SERVERS

Storage Dimensions' NT server storage strategy embraces a continued
commitment to cross-platform support by including plans to support DEC
Alpha systems. All of the NT storage products described in this press
release will support any Intel-based server platform. This enables NT
customers to standardize on a storage solution across a wide variety of
manufacturer's servers. Because DEC has made a significant strategic
thrust into the NT market, Storage Dimensions plans to announce similar
support of this platform in the near future.
