Spyglass Announces New Developer Services Group

Development and Consulting Services Offered to Assist in Web-Enabling New
Applications, Services and Devices

Naperville, Ill. -- Monday, April 15, 1996 -- Spyglass Inc. (NASDAQ: SPYG)
announced the formation of a new Developer Services Group to provide
consulting and development services to companies wanting to create branded
products and services that take advantage of the benefits offered by the
World-Wide Web. The new Group was announced at the same time the company
announced the Spyglass Web Technology Kit (WTK), which allows companies to
more easily integrate World-Wide Web capabilities into their applications,
services and devices.

The Developer Services Group will work with companies to provide the
consulting and technical expertise needed to enable Web technology
integration in as timely and efficient a manner as possible. The new group
is particularly important given that the WTK is targeting integrators and
in-house development organizations that may require additional outside
development expertise, beyond Spyglass' basic support contract.

"If Developer Services is used in conjunction with licensing our Web
technologies, we can provide companies with a complete solution to
Web-enabling applications," said Tim Krauskopf, vice president of research
and technology for Spyglass. The Developer Services Group is designed to
provide assistance to companies which may lack the software development
capabilities of Spyglass customers such as Microsoft, Oracle and IBM. "We
are now structured to provide an even higher level of support to the
marketplace and deliver on the promise that Spyglass offers the best
technology and support today," said Krauskopf.

The new Spyglass group is led by Paul Steimle, Director of Developer
Services, former V.P. PeopleSoft Consulting Group. According to Steimle,
the Developer Services group is focused on helping financial institutions,
software producers, and other companies embed Web technologies into their
products and services for their customers.

Steimle cited a number of benefits companies can realize by using the
group's services:

Reduce the time it takes to bring Web-enabled products to market

Add in-house Web technology and expertise quickly with minimum
 expense

Control overhead costs while introducing new Web-enabled products
 and services

The Developer Services Group will provide the following services that
commercial software and in-house developers need:

 Project Coordination/Consultation
 Project Analysis and Review
 Requirements Definition
 Custom Development

Spyglass is the undisputed market leader in embedded technology. It has
agreements with more than 60 customer/partners, including Microsoft,
Oracle, IBM and others, which use Spyglass technology in more than 150
different products. Spyglass licenses its technology to its
client/partners and typically receives revenue based on the number of
products deployed by its client/partners. Spyglass technology, for
example, is the underlying element for Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web
browser.

Now, the company has taken the next logical step in offering a group that
will provide its customers with consulting and development services to
customize Spyglass's Web client and server technology for a host of
end-user applications.

"Spyglass has always been the leader in providing embedded Web technology
to software developers, Internet device manufacturers, integrators and
corporations wanting to take advantage of the benefits offered by the
Web," said Krauskopf. "Now we are making it even easier and faster to
integrate our technology through the formation of this new service group
and the development of our Web Technology Kit."
