SOFTWARE PUBLISHING CORPORATION ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF ASAP WEBSHOW:
A VIEWER FOR WEB-EMBEDDED PRESENTATIONS

ASAP WebShow Delivers Reports, Presentations and Graphical Communications
From any Web Page at Extraordinary Speeds

SAN JOSE, CALIF., APRIL 22, 1996 -- Software Publishing Corporation (SPC)
(Nasdaq:SPCO) today announced the immediate availability of ASAP WebShow,
a viewer for presentations that are created with the Company's
award-winnning ASAP WordPower presentation software and posted to the
World Wide Web. ASAP WebShow is a Netscape Navigator 2.0 Plug-In, and will
also run as a helper application for other leading browsers on the World
Wide Web. The product is available for download at no cost from the
Company's web site at http://www.spco.com.

"The combination of ASAP WebShow and ASAP WordPower provides a rich set of
tools to enhance communications over the Internet," said Brad Peppard,
vice president of North American marketing. "Together, these two products
offer users a complete solution for creating and viewing stunning content
on the World Wide Web. Anyone can type an outline in a popular word
processing program, convert it into an ASAP WordPower presentation with
one click of a mouse, and in a single line of HTML, place it on a public
or private page for web viewing.

ASAP WordPower's small file size allows for the quick viewing and download
of content from the World Wide Web. Transmission times dramatically less
than standard streaming rates are achieved through the use of SPC's
Intelligent Formatting engine. For example, 30 heavily graphical pages
occupy as little as 11K, permitting users with a 14.4K modem to download
the entire report or presentation in under ten seconds. An ASAP WebShow
user can view a presentation in interactive or auto-run mode, download the
materials for later viewing, or print hardcopies for local use.

ASAP WebShow also supports Progressive Networks' RealAudio, allowing
viewers to get combined sound and voice within graphically rich pages with
text, gradient colors and a wide variety of graphical objects such as
tables, pyramid and organization charts. The addition of sound provides
significant enhancements to web-based materials that can be used for sales
and advertising, training materials, corporate communications and
financial reporting. Audio clips can be synchronized to individual slides
with use of the RealAudio player.

INTERNET AND INTRANET ADVANTAGES

With ASAP WebShow, corporations will be able to communicate to their
satellite offices via the Intranet. For example, quarterly results,
internal training, company policies and benefits can be broadcast to
remote sites without the need to hold costly company meetings at corporate
headquarters. In addition, the sales force can communicate visually via
the Internet to its customers eliminating the need for some on-site
visits.

ASAP WordPower version 1.95 reads and writes Microsoft PowerPoint 7.0 files
and ASAP WebShow will enable content from existing PowerPoint
presentations to be quickly and easily posted to the web with only minimal
editing and to be viewed or printed from any remote site. The PowerPoint
files will be three to ten times smaller when converted to ASAP WordPower
file format, making it easier to view presentations on the Internet.

ASAP WEBSHOW PUBLISHING KIT

SPC has developed the ASAP WebShow Publishing Kit, a comprehensive guide
detailing how web page authors can easily embed ASAP WordPower
presentations on the Internet. The document includes instructions on how

configure the server. The ASAP WebShow Publishing Kit is posted on SPC's
