AMERICAN SOFTWARE SIGNS SOFTM AS BUSINESS PARTNER

Alliance provides significant resource for companies embarking on supply
chain management

ATLANTA (April 22, 1996) -- SoftM Software and Consultancy (SoftM), a
leading Germany-based provider of AS/400 software, has become an American
Software business partner to provide supply chain planning and management
solutions in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

SoftM will incorporate Supply Chain Planning into an integrated supply
chain management solution. The solution will be marketed and implemented
by SoftM's Centre of Excellence for Supply Chain Planning in Stuttgart.

Supply Chain Planning is architected around "business events" to provide a
hands-on tool that proactively alerts managers to events that will impact
their business. Features of the product include highly accurate
forecasting based on six forecasting models, ranging from moving average
to dynamic winters model. The system automatically selects the most
accurate model for every required forecast "on-the-fly," depending on
seasonality, flexibility requirements and other factors, and copes
automatically with abnormal demand. These forecasts can incorporate
information from multiple levels of the business and factor in such events
as promotions, seasonality or unexpected budget constraints.

"Awareness of supply chain planning and management is growing to new
heights across Europe," said Hannes Merten, managing director of SoftM.
"Our experience and expertise combined with American Software's advanced
capabilities can enable companies to substantially cut costs and enhance
responsiveness and service to their customers."

The addition of SoftM as a business partner continues a strategy of
expanding American Software's presence worldwide. Recently, Distribution
Logistics & Management (DL&M) of Belgium, Data Management Services of
Bahrain and Colman Computer Services of Ireland have begun relationships
with American Software to sell supply chain planning and management
solutions.

"SoftM brings a wealth of talent and knowledge about supply chain
management that any company can leverage to improve its operations," said
Mike Edenfield, chief operating officer of American Software. "This gives
American Software and its customers in Germany a large partner with
extensive supply chain expertise."

Providing software, consulting, project management and training, SoftM
implements its solutions in a wide variety of industries, with special
focus in pharmaceuticals, food and freight forwarding. SoftM was
established in 1973 in Munich and currently has more than 170 employees
with regional offices in Hamburg, Berlin, Munster, Frankfurt, Stuttgart
and Zurich.

American Software develops, markets and supports the industry's most
comprehensive offering of integrated supply chain management and financial
control systems. As a leading provider of multi-platform enterprise
software solutions, the Atlanta-based firm offers state-of-the-art
business solutions across a wide range of industries internationally. Its
