SHIVA REMOTE ACCESS CLIENT INTEGRATED WITH MICROSOFT EXCHANGE CLIENT
SOFTWARE

Companies Collaborate to Provide Seamless Remote Access to Microsoft
Exchange Server

NETWORLD + INTEROP, LAS VEGAS, NEV., April 2, 1996 -- Shiva Corporation
today announced that Shiva's award-winning remote access client is
integrated with the Microsoft Exchange Server. Shiva's single-user remote
access client is embedded in Microsoft Exchange MS-DOS and Microsoft
Windows 3.X client software to provide Microsoft Exchange users with
transparent and reliable remote access to both the Microsoft Exchange
server and other LAN resources. Microsoft previously chose Shiva to
provide remote access design consultation and functionality for Windows
for Workgroups 3.11 and the Windows 95 Dial-up Networking client. This
announcement underscores the two companies' continued commitment to work
together to provide seamless, easy-to-use remote access in Microsoft
products.

As an added benefit, Shiva's client provides current MS Mail users with the
ability to remotely access MS Mail servers via the Microsoft Exchange
client. This eases the migration for network managers and users as their
organizations move from MS Mail and begin implementing Microsoft
Exchange.

"By having Shiva's client embedded in Microsoft Exchange MS-DOS and
Microsoft Windows 3.X clients, mobile workers and telecommuters can
simultaneously access information and applications residing on a Microsoft
Exchange Server, MS Mail server and other LAN resources," said Greg
Lobdell, Group Product Manager, Microsoft Exchange Marketing, Microsoft
Corp. "Shiva and Microsoft worked together to ensure remote users would
have a high-performance, seamless, interoperable remote access dial-in
networking client. The result of taking advantage of the high-quality
Shiva technology in the Microsoft Exchange clients is that customers have
robust remote access capabilities for their users."

"With this announcement, Shiva and Microsoft are building upon our existing
relationship which began in 1992 as a technical collaboration to provide
easy-to-use remote access capabilities for Windows for Workgroups users,"
said Woody Benson, senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing,
Shiva Corporation. "We are able to provide users with proven remote access
client software that will enable them to simply click on an icon to gain
access to all Microsoft Exchange and MS Mail applications while on the
road or working at home."

Shiva's client was integrated with Microsoft Exchange using the Microsoft
Remote Access Services API that Shiva implemented for its client as part
of this collaborative effort. The API allows developers to tightly
integrate dial-in access with client/server applications and take
advantage of the application's native user interface to manage and set up
connection parameters by the user. In this instance, remote users are
provided with a transparent connection from the Microsoft Exchange client
to a Microsoft Exchange Server. For example, when a remote user clicks on
the mail in-box in the Microsoft Exchange client, the Shiva client
automatically detects that the user is remote and initiates the connection
to the Microsoft Exchange server to transfer mail. It tears down the link
when the transfer of data is complete. If the user does not want to access
other Microsoft Exchange applications via the mail application, the Shiva
client can be launched outside of Microsoft Exchange to access the desired
applications directly.

Microsoft Exchange Server is an email server that combines electronic mail,
group scheduling, electronic forms and groupware applications on a single
platform which can be managed with a centralized administration program.
Microsoft Exchange provides the reliability and security essential to
mission-critical applications and built-in connectivity to the Internet.
Microsoft Exchange will be available worldwide in 27 languages.
