SECURITY AND V34 MODEM IN A PC CARD -- RACAL INTRODUCES NEW SECURE REMOTE
ACCESS SOLUTION

April 2, 1996 -- SUNRISE, FL-Racal today introduced a new information
security solution for personal communications, telecommuting and mobile
computing. The SafeDial V.34 PC card (formerly known as PCMCIA) provides
PC and laptop users with secure data communications and remote LAN access
over public and private telephone networks. This product prevents
unauthorized information access and provides privacy against eavesdropping
by encrypting all information between the central site and the remote
location.

The SafeDial V.34 combines Racal's tamper resistance and security
encryption technology with a V.34 modem in an industry-standard PC card
format. This industry-first technology eliminates the need for additional
cables and hardware at the remote site. Easy to use and transport, the
SafeDial V.34 only requires a password for normal operation. A secure
"digital signature" on all communications prevents someone from falsifying
their identity when accessing the network. To ensure secure transmissions,
SafeDial V.34 generates a different and random encryption key each time it
is used, making it unnecessary to generate, update and regularly
distribute encryption keys.

Security is a corporate issue

The profile of the corporate workplace is changing. "Sending and receiving
sensitive information to and from remote sites is becoming an everyday
occurrence for major corporations," said Sandy Epstein, Senior Director of
Security Products. "Employees who want to squeeze in a few more work hours
at home, at night or on weekends and the growing popularity of
telecommuting have increased the number of high-end laptops used by
corporations."

The SafeDial V.34 has been designed to meet or exceed government and
industry security standards for providing a certified secure product. It
uses DES (Data Encryption Standard) and a variety of other national
algorithms. It also utilizes Diffie Hellman Key Management, DSA Digital
Signatures and X.509 Certificates. As new standards and algorithms arise,
all security processes can be upgraded via a secure Flash EPROM, an
internal chip which makes upgrades as easy as downloading software.
Tamper-resistant design features meet stringent requirements for
protecting the operating algorithms and cryptographic keys against a wide
variety of attacks.

The total access security solution

At the corporate location the new SafeDial V.34 PC card modems can be
inserted in a variety of remote LAN access servers that accept "hot
swappable" PC cards. A SafeDial remote LAN access solution will protect
e-mail, access to corporate databases and other sensitive business
information. Direct plug-in PC card slots mean no cable or interface
issues.

The SafeDial V.34 modem will be available in the third quarter of 1996 with
a list price of $695 for the DES version. Other algorithms are priced
higher.
