RACAL-DATACOM EXTOL FAMILY PROVIDES PC-CARD BASED ISDN ACCESS SOLUTIONS

April 2, 1996 -- SUNRISE, FL. -- The first two members of the Racal-Datacom
Extol family of PC-based WAN access devices reduce the cost of ISDN
connectivity for desktop and laptop personal computers. The Extol family
is Racal's first set of PC-card solutions, complementing its broad array
of stand-alone wide area network access products.

Announced at the Networld+Interop show beginning April 2, the BRI versions
of Extol and Extol Plus will be generally available in June.

Extol products are designed and manufactured by Racal as high-speed ISDN
access alternatives. Extol cards provide access for remote and
telecommuting users wanting to take advantage of the low cost, low power
consumption, high throughput and small footprint associated with PC-card
solutions. In addition to their ease of installation, these ISDN
communications cards help reduce line costs and improve response times
when compared to the traditional modem. Both Extol and Extol Plus support
stand-alone or LAN-based connections, including PC to PC, PC to LAN, LAN
to LAN, LAN to Host, and PC to Host.

Racal-Datacom holds a top five position in the digital access equipment
market, according to the most recent European ISDN survey from industry
analysts Dataquest. These new products extend Racal's range of ISDN
interconnectivity solutions.

EXTOL

Extol is a passive plug-and-play ISDN terminal adapter ideal for home or
small office use. It operates exclusively in the Microsoft environment and
is available in both PCMCIA and ISA bus versions. To address the
world-wide ISDN market, Extol is available in both S-bus and U-bus
versions. It operates with Windows NT, Windows 95 and Windows for
Workgroups, capitalizing on Microsoft's new RAS software. A single-port
supports transmission rates up to 128 Kbps. Other features include
comprehensive "spoofing" capability, 4:1 LZS compression support and V.120
rate adaptation, giving users the same intelligence and bandwidth
management capabilities of a stand-alone terminal adapter at a much lower
price.

The U-bus versions of Extol (for the United States, Canada and Latin
America markets) will have list prices of $495 for ISA, and $595 for
PCMCIA.

EXTOL PLUS

Extol Plus is an intelligent, modular networking platform with optional
gateway and router functionality. It has multiple versions based on the
host PC's operating system. Supported environments include Windows,
Windows NT, DOS, SCO UNIX, and NetWare. Networking software options
include IP Router (X.25 or PPP), NetWare Remote Access (X.25 only) and SNA
Gateway (X.25 only).

Extol Plus comes as either a single-port hardware platform, supporting
transmission rates up to 128 Kbps, or a two-port platform with BRI and
leased-line functionality supporting up to 640 Kbps (initially available
only in Europe).

The single-port BRI U-bus version of Extol Plus will have a list price
starting at $995.

"The trend today is toward integrated WAN access within the PC. The cost
advantages are compelling," said Dr. Hanafy Meleis, Racal Data Group
Senior Vice President of Strategic Direction. "We believe that Extol's
simplicity and competitive functionality will be favorably received by
both the end user and distribution channel."
