QUARTERDECK HELPS THE 1996 NEW ORLEANS JAZZ AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL ENTER
CYBERSPACE FOR THE FIRST TIME

Quarterdeck and House of Blues to Sponsor Online Chats and Other High Tech
Events

MARINA DEL REY, CALIF., APRIL 17, 1996 --- HTTP://WWW.QDECK.COM/ (NASDAQ:
QDEK) IS WORKING WITH THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL TO TAKE
THIS YEAR'S MUSIC FESTIVAL TO A HIGHER LEVEL WITH ONLINE CHATS, THE FIRST
JAZZ AND HERITAGE WORLD-WIDE WEB SITE, AND THE QUARTERDECK AREA, CALLED
CYBERFEST, A PAVILION OF TERMINALS THAT WILL ALLOW FESTIVAL ATTENDEES TO
ACCESS THE INTERNET. AS THE WORLD'S FOREMOST CHAMPION OF LOUISIANA MUSIC
AND CULTURE, THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL HAS LONG HAD THE
MISSION OF ENRICHING THE PRESENT BY PRESERVING THE PAST. WITH THE HELP OF
QUARTERDECK, THE FESTIVAL IS EMBRACING THE FUTURE. THE 27TH ANNUAL
FESTIVAL, A CORNUCOPIA OF MUSIC, FOOD, AND CRAFTS, WILL NOW HAVE ONRAMPS
TO THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY, WITH POINTERS TO MUSIC AND
CULTURAL-ORIENTED SITES ON THE INTERNET.

The Jazz Festival Web site, developed and operated by the House of Blues
New Media, is currently online at http://www.nojazzfest.com. Quarterdeck,
based in Marina del Rey, California, is sponsoring Cyberfest and daily
online chat events. Cyberfest will consist of 15 workstations, loaded with
Quarterdeck's acclaimed Internet software and staffed by Quarterdeck
employees to help novice users. This will enable attendees to chat with
other attendees, friends back home, and artists at the festival on
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) and directly via WebTalk, Quarterdeck's
real-time voice over the Internet tool.

"We're excited to be moving into the Information Age," said Festival
Producer/Director Quint Davis. " The world is moving ahead quickly, and we
want to move ahead with it -- without losing sight of our amazing
heritage. The Web site will give us a year-round presence and allow people
to give us their feedback directly. The Quarterdeck Cyberfest area will
expose Festival visitors to incredible new technology. And both will
enhance our original goal: to spread the word about Louisiana's rich
culture. "

"The Cyberfest is not just for festival attendees. People who can't make it
to Louisiana can also access the many musical and cultural sites from the
Internet," said Steve Tropp, senior vice president and general manager of
Quarterdeck's Internet Services business unit. "With this new technology,
the Festival promoters and artists will be able to embrace a much larger
audience and bring the musical experience to many more people, in a new
and innovative way."

The Quarterdeck Cyberfest area will be housed in the Grandstand Tent at the
Fairgrounds. In addition to the workstations, large monitors will let
others view the interaction. A staff of technicians from Quarterdeck will
help both novices and experts utilize the systems. In addition to IRC and
WebTalk, the Cyberfest workstations will come loaded with Quarterdeck's
WebCompass meta search tool, which will have special pointers to music and
cultural-related sites. Visitors to the Jazz Festival Web site will also
find complete information on Festival performers, food, crafts, and much
more -- including a gallery of classic photos from previous festivals, as
well as a full-color library of official Jazz and Heritage Festival
posters dating back to 1975.

The Web site will be updated daily and will even feature short biographies
of each performer. Plans for the future include live music and still-
photo transmissions of Festival performances by photographer Jim Marshall.
After the festival, the Web site will continue to grow, with updates on
plans for the 1997 event. It will also serve as a forum for visitors to
post personal Festival experiences and offer feedback to event
organizers.
