Channel Partners Announce Availability of Audio and Streaming Multimedia
Standard

LAS VEGAS, April 2, 1996 -- Progressive Networks (PN) today announced the
release of the final version of the RealAudio System 2.0, which will be
available from the Progressive Networks' Web site as well as through
system integrators and resellers. The announcement is being made in
conjunction with the launch of Progressive Networks' Intranet offerings of
a corporate licensing program and Intranet Server pricing, and the
availability of a RealAudio Firewall Proxy Kit, which allows system
administrators to build custom firewall solutions to support RealAudio.
The company made these announcements today at Interop Dotcom, being held
here through Thursday, April 4th, at the Las Vegas Hilton Convention
Center in booth #312.

The RealAudio Player 2.0 for Microsoft Windows 95 with printed
documentation and support is available for purchase at the Progressive
Networks World Wide Web page (http://www.realaudio.com) for $29.00.
Progressive Networks continues to offer a free player from its site for
personal use. The RealAudio Server 2.0 has a suggested retail price of
$495.00 for the five stream RealAudio Entry Server, $1895.00 for the 20
stream RealAudio Standard Server and $8495.00 for the 100 stream RealAudio
T-1 Server. The number of simultaneous streams simply measures the maximum
number of end users who can listen to RealAudio simultaneously from a
particular RealAudio Server. Larger stream packages are also available.

The final version of RealAudio 2.0 features the following new capabilities:
improved sound and music quality; browser integration with Netscape
Navigator synchronized multimedia for presentations with audio; open
architecture; bandwidth negotiation to accommodate varying modem speeds;
and firewall support.

Progressive Networks will distribute RealAudio through value-added
resellers and system integrators with locations throughout the U.S.,
including: Acclaim Technology Inc., Audio Images, Arrowhead Technologies
Inc., Claremont Technology Group, Inc., Compucentre, CSI Digital, Inacom
Information Systems, InterNex Information Service, Personal Workstations,
Thurber Technology Group, UltraPlex Information Systems, Webfactory and
Workgroup Solutions Inc.

"The market for audio and streaming multimedia has surpassed our
expectations," said Rob Glaser, CEO and chairman of Progressive Networks.
"Working with Channel Partners will help propel RealAudio into both the
consumer and corporate marketplace."

"The Progressive Networks product lines are great for Intranet customers
delivering audio-based applications like just-in-time training," said Todd
Tomlinson, vice president of Claremont Technology Group. "With over four
million RealAudio Players in distribution, RealAudio has been the standard
for audio and streaming multimedia on the Internet."

PROGRESSIVE NETWORKS' VAR PROGRAM

Mike Henningsen, Channel Manager at Progressive Networks, announced that
membership information in the RealAudio Channel Partners Program can be
accessed at the RealAudio Web site: http://www.realaudio.com/channel.

Progressive Networks will support their VAR program with RealAudio Seminars
for RealPartners; a series of seminars for potential VARs that will take
place in Los Angeles on May 7th; in San Francisco on May 10th; in New York
on May 14th; and in Chicago on May 30th.

RealAudio 2.0 features the following new capabilities (demonstrations are
available online at the RealAudio 2.0 Showcase):

* BETTER SOUND QUALITY -- RealAudio 2.0 includes support for RealAudio
28.8. This is a new algorithm that provides enhanced sound quality to
users with 28.8 baud modems or faster. The benefit is that users can now
enjoy "mono" FM-quality sound which provides a clearer audio experience
for real-time delivery of multimedia over the Internet.

* BROWSER INTEGRATION -- RealAudio 2.0 offers "plug-in" capabilities for
the Netscape Navigator. This functionality allows end users and content
creators to integrate RealAudio directly into their Web page layouts.

* COMPELLING PRESENTATION WITH SYNCHRONIZED MULTIMEDIA -- RealAudio 2.0
allows end users and content providers to create compelling audio-based
multimedia shows and presentations. This benefits content providers since
they can attract more visitors and commerce to their sites.

* OPEN ARCHITECTURE ENHANCEMENTS, which allow third-party application
developers to take advantage of the RealAudio System with access to a
Playback Engine API (Application Programming Interface) and an Encoder
API. Software Publishing Corporation's ASAP WebShow and Macromedia, Inc.'s
SoundEdit 16 are the first products to take advantage of RealAudio's open
architecture.

* BANDWIDTH NEGOTIATION -- RealAudio 2.0's bandwidth negotiation allows for
greater flexibility for selecting the most appropriate connection. The
RealAudio System can be delivered to users transparently by detecting the
best possible connection method for 14.4, 28.8, etc.

* FIREWALL SUPPORT -- RealAudio 2.0 offers comprehensive solutions for
firewalls, including a TCP-only data option, native support from major
firewall vendors, custom firewall proxy kit and client-side integration.

ABOUT THE REALAUDIO SYSTEM

Progressive Networks' RealAudio client-server software system enables
Internet and online users equipped with conventional multimedia personal
computers and voice-grade telephone lines to browse, select and play back
audio or audio-based multimedia content on demand, in real time. This is a
real breakthrough compared to typical download times encountered with
delivery of audio over conventional online methods in which audio is
downloaded at a rate that is five times longer than the actual program;
the listener must wait 25 minutes before listening to just five minutes of
audio. Since its introduction last April, over four million RealAudio
Players have been distributed with over 25,000 being downloaded from the
RealAudio Web site daily. Thousands of RealAudio Servers are currently
delivering audio and streaming multimedia content on the Web. The
RealAudio Personal Servers will also be shipped with future versions of
Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

The RealAudio System consists of the RealAudio Player, a client-based
software enabling Internet/online users to access existing audio for
instant playback, and the RealAudio Server, which enables major media
content providers to distribute audio or audio-based multimedia streams
over the Internet to a broad base of consumers and end users. A RealAudio
Encoder allows individuals to encode their audio programming for nearly
any analog or digital source.
